Sam Leong Cannot Handle the Truth

Kelvin Lawson left Auckland for Sydney about 10 years ago expecting to encounter the "land of milk and honey".

What he found was the opposite - long working hours, higher taxes, higher cost of living and intolerance and poor attitudes among the people.

He and fiancee Denise Laing moved back to Auckland a couple of months ago to be closer to their ageing parents and friends, and are relieved to be back home.

"I believe a lot of New Zealanders are going to get there and they are in for a shock," Mr Lawson said.

"Australia has been painted out to be the 'grass is greener'. It's not. Unless you are making a simple lifestyle choice as in, say, weather... then there's no other reason to go."

Although Mr Lawson, 48, might have earned more in Sydney "it's not a lot more". And he was hit with a 48 per cent tax rate on overtime he was expected to do working in installing and monitoring communications.

Then there was stamp duty for home ownership and higher costs of car ownership.

Back home, Mr Lawson and Ms Laing were amazed at how much cheaper they found basic food items.

Mr Lawson was also left with an impression of many Australians he encountered not being accepting of other cultures. Being from NZ was not so bad, but "if you're from other any part of the world, mate, they can make it really hard for them".

He was also unimpressed at the lack of sportsmanship shown by Australians, illustrated most recently by their reaction to the Rugby League World Cup loss. "If they win at ping pong, you are going to hear about it. If they lose, it's like it never happened. It's unbelievable

Re: Sam Leong,Other Ex-Sinkees Cannot Handle Truth

The problem is the frogs in the well see Australia as a single unit, just like they see the USA as a single unit.

You need to compare Singapore to the individual cities. But if you were migrating from Singapore, Australian cities in general are hardly the best choice, since US/Canada offer much more in terms of weather and opportunites.

Mate, my New Year resolution that I have taken on myself is to ignore the postings of these cockroachs. However, seeing this desperate loser posting the same craps made me feel a little sorry for him. So I'm just giving him a small benefit by replying just for this. Rest asured, I'm not going to reply to any more of the postings from shockshit or his other loser nicks.

HAPY NEW YEAR MATE.

That's true. Although it's probably arguable that weather depends on perception. I mean while all Australian cities, majority in the south, experience 4 seasons, most of them, including Perth, don't snow in icy winters. And that's the saving grace for many Singaporeans because they aren't used to snow, especially old retirees and baby boomers(like my mum).

If people hate snow, then they might prefer Australia, because it hardly snows unless you are really near the southern most tip. But you're in Chicago or in British Columbia, then during times like now, both would be caked in snow.

Its true. In terms of opportunities, US still has more but the difficulties in obtaining a H1B and the long wait for PR and citizenship are causing some people to consider Oz. Canada is too cold so some people won't prefer it. But then, there is no need to compare Oz vs Can vs US. Oz is not exactly a perfect paradise yes, but it is at least a 1,000 times better than Sinkeeland.

Why do all Famous,Rich Aussies Get USA Citizenship and renounce Aussie?

http://www.news.com.au/entertainment/story/0,28383,24867106-5013560,00.html

Simon Baker set to change his stripes, get US Citizenship

SIMON Baker has been one of Australia's more successful acting exports to the US, but now he's considering doing the unthinkable - becoming a "seppo" and relinquishing his Australian identity.

The star of Channel 9's The Mentalist said he is thinking about applying for US citizenship after being inspired by Barack Obama and his country's reaction to him.

Gallery: Simon Baker - a hot stud!

"The morning after your election in November, I said to my wife, Rebecca, 'You know, I'm thinking about becoming an American'," Baker has told Parade magazine.

"Then she said that she felt the same way."

The actor, who was born in Tasmania, said he had been too busy to get the ball rolling, but that "it's going to happen".

The Lennox Head-raised and Ballina High-educated actor first found fame on E Street and won a best new talent Logie in 1992.

He made the move to Los Angeles in 1995 with wife Rebecca Rigg, also a former E Streeter, and broke through on the Academy Award-winning LA Confidential.

Stupid.

Hollywood is the place ito be to make it big in the entertainment industry, his kids were born in America and given American citizenships, naturally he would consider to convert to American if he continues to pursue his career (and his children) in the states.

The natural question for you - are you a hollywood actor? If not, don't dream.

good post! because australia is a disaster. remember, australians are leaving there by the planeload, abandoning the place as its the worst country in the world. the fact there is an australian exodus speaks volumes as to the viability of the quality of life there. its just not good enough for its own people, but subprime singaporeans too stupid to know better would consider it.

If my personal social circle is an indication, that is not true. About 6 of the 9 families we know who had migrated to Autralia have returned. None of the 7 families in Canada have done so, nor are they even contemplating it, though 1 of the couples who is more eldery try to return to Singapore every winter.

What was their purpose in moving to Australia in the first place? They must have their own reasons right..so what's the general reasons anyway?

Well, to each his own at the end of the day. I know of people who had gone to the US but went back to Singapore after sometime. Insane? Maybe to some but they may have their own reasons. Then there is this website called notcanada.com that is conveying a very different message from you. But like I've said in some of my posts before, there is no perfect paradise in the world. When a person migrates, he has to do so for the right reason, not because of the simple reasons of not liking his country of birth. At the end of the day, one man's meat is another man's poison. For me, Oz has offered me much more than Sinkapore and I have absolutely no intention of going back to Singapore. However, another person might have views different from me. If so, I would respect his views.

Singaporeans? Don't learn from them if you want to succeed in business

Singaporeans have been making foolish mistakes in their investment in Australia.

Under PAP Singapore, they never learn how the real world works ...

SingTel may be twice shy
SingTel chief executive Chua Sock Koong made a dreadful mistake by doing a cosy deal with the former minister, Helen Coonan, for $958 million of government funding just a few months before an election that everyone knew she and her party were going to lose. Sure enough, the new minister, Stephen Conroy, quickly found an excuse to cancel that deal and the Singaporeans were made to look foolish.

Warren Buffet Badge for Investment Timing
Temasek Holdings, which in June 2007 invested $400m in ABC Learning at $7.30 per share.

When ABC announced a 42% fall in interim profit in Feb, Temasek backed up by buying a further 8m shares at $2.14.

The shares lasted traded at 54c before suspension in Aug.

Now, ABC shares only has wallpaper value.

yes its the result of being a better country than australia. remember paul hogan is sitting in his mansion in santa barbara daring the ATO to "come get him". might have something to do with the vastly lower american taxes over the criminal australian ones. what was that kiwi paying in australia? 48%? ouch. pain.

recently i was reading an article about how much welfarism there is for low income earners in the US - below US$ 26K A($40k) per year. free food, free housing, free medical care, free money if you have children, free petrol, down payment assistance for cars and now - free mobile phones.

this might be why millions are applying to america, including the top singaporeans, while the idiots head for third class australia

I see, regurgitating tabloid news. Guess what, SingTel and Temasek Holdings also do the same and guess what happen ....

Why not go US as a low income earner and experience the socialist policies of America first-hand.

Now, Americans are starting to realise that the rest of the world, esp Asians, is not happy being sweatshop labourers for them.

Anyway, my Indonesian friend in Perth has been daring ATO to come after his unpaid tax money in Singapore, so far, they do not dare too, because the Singapore bank is protecting him.

Re: Singaporeans? Don't learn from them if you want to succeed in business

I am not sure why is it with a few Singaporeans, they refuse to believe me when I told them that creating a trust does not mean that the property developer is reliable or rich.

So, now, got fingers burnt. All the profit from selling en-bloc in Singapore to invest here evaporated over 2 months. At least, paper losses only. But with deleveraging happening, we need another property bubble to re-coup the losses.

Another idiot, still holding on to BrisConnect, insist that it is cheap. It is dirt cheap now, share price is 0 cents Forgot to read Prospectus. Next payment due.

A final idiot, go and invest in Babcock and Brown when share prices dive. Confident of its revival because of its link with Singapore Power. I think he lost almost everything (at least on paper)

Now, they panicked and asked me: "how to get back money?" Yes how? I want to know also ....
