The 2012 Edelman Trust Barometer conducted by Edelman Public Relations showed that Singaporeans ranked third among 25 countries, with China in first place and United Arab Emirates second, in trusting their government to tell the truth and do what is right.

Most Singaporeans Yahoo! Singapore spoke to said they found the results to be unsurprising given the pervasiveness and presence of the government in the society.

"By controlling education and introducing kindergartens, day care centres as well as their national education modules in schools, young Singaporeans are taught from an early age to trust the government," Tan said.

This view was shared by Arif Bamadhaj, who felt that generations of Singaporeans have been trained to believe that the government knows what's right and therefore led the country to what it is today.

"Just because Singaporeans are trusting in the government does not reflect the government's efficiency in carrying out their job in their best ability," said Aaron Lau, 22, student.

This year's Trust Barometer also showed that Singaporean's trust in the media increased by six per cent compared to last year.

Just shows that the idiots in this forum belong to a small, insignificant minority.

The majority of Singaporeans are like me.... we love and trust the PAP.

Yup, Lemming behavior means when shits hits you, everyone kenna big time. This is the price you pay for this strategy. If everyone all not trusting, anarchy. If all trusting, kenna sai but external forces. Singapore is a case that if some in the government do something really bad with people knowing, when it happens, all will kenna big time. MRT is just one case. So yes, you sow what u reap.

Had the survey included foreigners residing in Singapore, the result would have surpassed the first-placed China.

Is this result because of the proliferation of pap throughout SG?

The result depends on who is paying for the survey.

Edelman has sometimes been criticized by activist groups for failing to provide disclosure or mismanaging promotions for clients including Microsoft and Wal Mart.

In S'pore, such survey is only academic. It doesn't tell the real story at all. There's no need to conduct any such fanciful surveys by some high-sounding firm. To know the people's true feelings, just talk to them in coffee shops, hawker centers and wet markets etc. It would be an overwhelming display of mistrust and dislike for the PAP. Actually there is no need for me to make such a post. Most people know this. But unfortunately there are real idiots out there led by our forum host who don't and need to be educated.

There's a problem with surveys - i.e. you must trust that the person being surveyed is going to be honest.

If you can honestly believe a Singaporean or PRC citizen is going to be honest in this kind of situation... I have nothing to say.

Funny we never seem to question who commissioned such surveys or studies?? From what I gather these Edelman fellows don't do it for free...a business is a business at the end of the day, to ensure sustainability always tell the customer what they want to hear....
