from the article in papers today :

"while it may be too early to entirely attribute the good results to Ms Saw, there was no denying that net profit for the 2nd quarter was a whopping 378 % higher than the corresponding last year."

"Under her watch, SMRT's profits more than doubled from $57 mil to $161 mil in financial year 2011."

why the need to salvage her reputation? a case of wrong fit for the job? and she was heading SMRT for 10 full years. sounds like a PR spin - is she reLeeted to family?

Wow, SMRT must had kicked themself in the butt for losing a brilliant leeeder!

In just about 5 months from day 1 onboard, she can take credit for growth of more than 3 times biz from last year?

All the staff and management must be sleeping all these years......until the great Knight Saw came in her Ferrarri!

Agree with you. This is the kind of journalism we have. The first sentence is gobbledygook and consists of two clauses where the main clause is a non-sequitur, and possibly an affirmation of the consequent fallacy in argument.

But then, the reporter went on to attribute credit to Saw in the next sentence.

It's like saying "while it may be too early to start culling dogs, there was no denying that a jogger was bitten by a stray dog."

talking with both corners of the mouth...

So yes or no?

If this were a private individual who paid a PR firm to spin off her CV, I would not have blinked in a second. But her previous position was so high profile and the problems so well known, it makes the national paper look stupid to simply dismiss the the problems which led to her resignation/ouster from SMRT. In fact, it would have been more appropriate to have this article in print 1 year from now.

This goes to show how small the playground here and who the (related) players are.

I think a lot of people forgot that SMRT is a monopoly and there is no real competition. Auric on the other hand has tons of competitors. I am not sure how successful she will be

Clearly, the SMRT episode showed how complacency crept into the system in a huge way; and now the journalist is trying to paint Saw in a better light to please the paper's political masters and take some tarnish away from their poor governance.

You do not need a Indian Accountant to do such accounting.

It could well be that she was responsible for Auric's good showing but that does not in any way make her less culpable for the problems with SMRT. At Auric, she being employed for her core competence ie retail and it not a surprise that she does well in this area. But at SMRT which is a rail operations company, she was employed for her retail expertise and that can only result in what we all know today - the complete neglect of the core business of SMRT ie commuting the masses rapidly. As I'd said earlier, Saw PH deserved all the "fucking" she got for the massive wrongdoings at SMRT but the one who is truly at fault, the one who appointed and instructed her to focus on the retail side of MRT operations instead of on the transit operations, had got away scot free, not even a mention of her role in all these. Yes, Saw PH ought to get "fucked" but the one who ought to get "fucked" even harder is the one who who appointed and gave Saw PH all the support to do what she did (and that made her so very arrogant). She's the one that ought to be held ultimately responsible for SMRT failures.

Talk cock! If the former CEO is so capable as to generate over 300% profit for the company, it would be sheer stupidity for the Board of Directors to [replace] him - unless he has committed a crime. They would hug him everyday instead of letting him go.

Smart investors would have read the brilliance of Saw PH and bought more Aurics shares instead of coming here to let off steam.

That's right. Just proves that with the right connection, you need not be qualified for the job. Who you know counts. What you know doesn't.

auric Pacific is owned by Lippo group. you can see the chairman James Riady donating 1 million to President' s charity on TV. my impression is that he does this every year. His father is Mochtar Riady, whose name can be found on a business building know NUS campus at Clementi. My point is, Lippo is well entrenched with the big player on the local scene to offer refuge for Saw and Yeo Cheow Tong previously.

"Auric, a diversified unit of Indonesian conglomerate Lippo Group, has a varied portfolio in food manufacturing, distribution and retail. It produces Sunshine bread and also owns the Delifrance Asia café chain."

The Riady's are convicted crooks.....name so smelly. Now claims to be born again Christian....ptui!

The same James Riady who was banned from traveling to USA. just a simple search on wiki pulls out the following. and the Singapore president welcomes his money with open arms. No wonder the Ma Chi case drew parallels of laundered money coming here.

from wiki :

"In January 2010, the Washington Post revealed how the 'disgraced' Riady had received a visa waiver by the Obama Administration to re-enter the US, despite having been banned by the Bush administration. Riady's old friend, US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton claimed she had no knowledge of the visa waiver. A State Department official, embarrassed by the Post's revelation, said "the reality of his past remains a significant obstacle for future travel to the United States." Riady received a waiver from a rule that forbids entry to foreigners guilty of "a crime involving moral turpitude," a term that government lawyers generally interpret to include fraud."
