Sri Lanka is NOT as poor as it portrays itself to be. While it attempts now to appeal to its huge amount of citizens working in foreign lands to remit foreign currencies into Sri Lanka, an attempt to booster it's dollar value through the exchange rate, as well as CIRCULATION of money into its economy to create jobs & opportunities, such may not be enough.

The true value & finances of Sri Lanka lays in its culture - being indians whom had for centuries well known to be miserly & will save every penny than to use it frivolously for investments but usually scammed by the corrupted, being an agrarian society & see no need for higher education, one area that they will spend on is RELIGION, to seek for solace & in the hope that donations to such causes will ensure a good life in the immediate or the next, from simple village farming families to even the corrupted leaders, in many of its religious events-birth, marriages, death, daily living, etc, & for CENTURIES

Thus, the RECIPIENTS of such donations - in coins, gold or in kind, are the religious authorities in the land & are the RICHEST with IMMENSE wealth unimaginable, that would pay off not only its debt obligations, but even buy over India if it is for sale.

This is no fantasy, but a reality as happened in India when they went into debt, found out that their temples were holding HUGE amounts of gold & currencies HIDDEN under floorboards, unspent for centuries. It happened even in Thailand, where the monks were far more irreligious & rooted to material worldly wealth - used those funds for lavish lifestyles, such as flying 1st class on flights, etc. Even Islam - a religion of peace - was not spared, as it was found out in the war on terror by Humanity - its huge mosque run zakat funds were used to finance terrorism.....

Thus, if Sri Lanka wants to elevate its civilization & people, & meet its obligations to international lenders whom had been kind enough to offer help - start looking at its temples fund - in banks & under temple floorboards.

If Singapore was run by oppies, we would have defaulted on our loans and our treasury empty. Thanks to PAP, we've over US$1 trillion in our reserves while the Sri Lankans have no more reserves.

All that fight with tamils eventually benefitted the tiongs.
The smart and hardworking Tamils are marginalised in Sri Lanka. If more of them are involved in the running of the country, the situation may not be so bleak as what we are witnessing today. During the colonial period, the Tamils, a minority, were allowed to play significant roles by the British.

Thanks for the clarification. I was only referring to the biological sense, of scientific genetic heritage. Sri Lanka is an ancient land with archeological evidences dating back to 125,000 yrs ago & ruled by many. It is an independent sovereign nation today, dating back since its Dominion status in 1948, into a republic by 1972. The majority of citizens are Sinhalese, & Buddhism (70% of population) is its official religion although it also allow other mainstream religions to freely thrive.

Religion in the hands of mortal men can be a force of good, or bad. To help the Sinhalese People facing national debt crisis, its religion may be of help. There are many Buddhist temples, some dating back to even 250BCE, when Buddhism was introduced to Ceylon (ancient Sri Lanka ) by the son of the Buddhist convert great Emperor Asoka.

There are an est 500 Million Buddhists around the World, and there are many Buddhist festivals celebrated in Sri Lanka, of which April & May can be introduced to the World for Buddhists to make a Pilgrimage to Sri Lanka. It is high time to open up the country fully for Tourism as it vaccination rate is at 77% & can be further improved. With 1 million Buddhist arrivals, each donating US$100 each, it will have US$100Million dollars. Appeals to Buddhists worldwide thru honest & reputable charity agencies for similar amounts of US$100 = est US$50 Billion, matching the seize of its debt.

With such amounts, US$ will be converted into Sri Lankan Rupee, creating a demand for rupee, shoring up its rupee through the exchange rate, helping its exports to earn more & imports lower inflationary costing to its citizens, & preventing the rupee from sliding further which will harm its citizens.

As there are international lenders willing to loan billions now to Sri Lanka, it will need to ensure such funds are corruption free & use such to improve its logistics & infrastructure for tourism to boost its revenue & treasury. Also, it will critically need to end the protests peacefully through innovative compromises & get everyone gainfully employed, & TOGETHER, on a common goal, to end the financial crisis & progress the nation.
