I think he has brain cell but too cowed into thinking being legal and right with law. That's the thing.

The key word is savvy, being savvy. having brain cell also means being savvy.
Savvy means u can make it going around of all the unnecessary crap of legal here and there.

He draws a secure salary of $2,800 a month. His wife draws a salary of $2,000. Combined, it is $4,800/mth, with CPF contribution from their salary AND a further contribution by employer. In total, his family gross financial assets alone are well above $5,000/mth, which is on the high side of average income of most Singaporeans. For sure he can afford a comfortable flat, and even have kids with Singapore taxpayers' generous allowances both financial & physical for child rearing - discounts for childbirth, paid paternal & maternal leave, etc.

As one grows older, one will realizes that physical Human limitations will set in, through old age limiting the ability to earn an income, & worse, with medical bills to pay. Without a family's support - brothers, sisters, sons, daughters, nephews, nieces, it will be a harder life to live out the rest of life.

He probably is suffering from a genuine malady called mid-life crisis which most Humans will go through. Life is more or less settled for him, his days of adventure & chionging are over, age catching up, stuck in job & matrimonial bliss taken for granted, & is bored. The grass is always greener on the other side, when he sees his peers living an adventurous life, but not knowing the loneliness that they had to endure, & the insecurities that comes with financial & physical risks with their lifestyles.

Being young & single will seem adventurous, to explore & acquire material goods. But once such are attained, it becomes equally meaningless & empty, staring at life ahead alone. One can only eat so much, drive a Ferrari so much, indulge with fantasy women so much before boredom sets in.

Do allow me to share a crude colloquial Hokkien joke on Desire, best understood & told in Hokkien:-

A young man helped an elderly man across the street in a busy thoroughfare, unaware that the elderly old man was a mythical supernatural being. In appreciation, the supernatural being granted the young man 3 wishes. Stunned, the young man shouted at the top of his lungs " Wah simi lanjia mah ai!!!" -( roughly & literally translated as ' I want all kinds of penis' - which the supernatural being did not understand that in colloquial & crude Hokkien 'lanjia' was meant as material goods.)

The young man's first wish was granted. His body was covered with all kinds of penis, in all shapes and sizes, colors & length.

He cried and then beg - " Wah simi lanjia mah mia!!!" ( roughly and literally translated as 'I every penis also don't want' - which again the supernatural being took literally. That young man's second wish was granted. ALL penises from the young man's body was removed, even his own.

In horror, that young man implored the supernatural being to give him back his penis. His third wish was granted. And the supernatural being left, having kept his promises.

The point of this crude joke is about Desire, & OPPORTUNITIES in life. It is always best to be contend with life. If one seeks adventure, be sure to be prepared for risks that comes along with it, with no regrets nor blame anyone else for one's situation in a changed life.

I'm always puzzled by people who speak of salary, retirement and child raising expense as generic concepts. Each of these items is a mathematical problem that can be calculated and somewhat resolved using four basic functions of +-/*. Yet when these people talk about such issues, there is no demonstration of them even having basic awareness to sit down with pen and paper or Excel and perform simple PSLE level calculations.

For e.g. this poster claims he is well educated with good qualifications and a $2.8k job is beneath him, fine then at least show people you know PSLE Math. Do some basic calculations, get a preliminary conclusion and then raise your concerns and seek advice on whether the assumptions used in your calculations are correct and/or what are some suggestions to cut expense or increase income.

Just sit there spout generic nonsense like increased cost of living, BTO 4R expensive, kids expensive, pay sux etc. and behave like a 10 year old, how will anything get resolved? The same goes for those people who reply him to "help" - all give conceptual blah blah without an iota of calculation used to solve a mathematical problem.

From the way he writes, it appears that he's quite well educated, presumably a graduate. But earning a miserable $2.8K at age 36? And still studying at this age? He's pathetic!
Ok lah. Times are bad. Can survive daily ok already. Don't compare with others.

There are many people with this typical civil servant mindset where job security is more important than high pay. I worked with many of these before and they slack like hell, enjoying long tea-breaks and lunch-breaks. They always leave work on the dot. These fuckers can never survive in the private sector.

Either they wake up to their senses or they suffer.
The day they don't wake up to their brainwashing and indoctrination, the day never come they do things to free themselves up in life.

Ah finally someone who talks sense and logic.

Unfortunately, this fucker is too lazy to even provide additional information such as the type of degree he has and whether he has a certain work experience which will allow him to seek greener pastures. $2.8k? That’s nothing. Sure, he gets to sit in an aircon office the whole day and work till he drops in a civil service sector but that’s useless if he gets paid a pittance.

Nowadays, F&B can get $3.4K easily. And u don’t even have to do too much research. Just walk around malls and u see them putting up banners stating the pay.

U need to improve slightly on your translation.. It's not "Lanjia", it should be "Lanjio"..And it should be "Mai" instead of "Mia"..
