Finally SMRT is nationalised and will be delisted.

This is an auspicious event as it shows that many Singaporeans were right that pap should not have listed SMRT as the PAP cant socialise costs and privatise profits.

May the pap learn from this bitter lesson

same as in PSA.
I was informed that government and LTA built West Coast Highway just for the purposes of PSA (Trucking).
However, PSA did not pay a single cent to Westcoast highway fund and all the bills are paid by tax payers money

PAP has not privatised PSA yet.

I heard that at one time, PAP was thinking of privatising PSA and Changi Airport.

But these are SG icons and the pap must not be allowed to sell it and let all profits go to Temasek Holdings which is not transparent.

If pap wants to list psa or Changi airport, it shd give some shares to every Singaporean as they (PSA and Changi Airport) belong to every singaporean. Such SG icons must not fall into the hands of foreigners

SMRT, PSA and CAG are strategic assets and must remain in the hands of Singapore.

The Opposition must raise this and oppose any attempt to privatise these strategic assets.

Likewise SIA, NOL shd righfully be treated as strategic assets as in time of war, Singapore must have the prerogative to sue them to ferry wahtever supplies we need for national survival.

But alas, PAP has fumbled and failed and ran NOL into the ground and buried it

what if SMRT continues to be bad as overnight shit even after de privatization

it will take a long time to rectify the damage done to SMRT and restore the system back to health. so I expect pap to urge Singaporeans to have patience while they work at it.

the point is why did pap allow smrt to deteriorate to this extent?

Just a matter of time before some smart aleck is going to suggest it to be listed again in the name of productivity and efficiency.

Just so you heard it first from lifeafter41......

The pap privatised it before knowing the full implications of usurping SG's iconic asset. But now that it is in a mess and it will take much money to put smrt right again, the pap has taken it back to spend singaporeans' money on it.

You are right, I wont be surprised that when it is restored to health again and after much much money spent, pap will privatise it again

Finally, PAP listened to Low Thia Kiang's suggestion to nationalise our SMRT. It goes to show that WP has better foresight than the complacent PAP.

Maybe Dr. Tony Tan was right. Dumb idea to build the mrt when it's bleeding taxpayers so much money.

yes, national assets must not be privatised and profits kept by TH. Privatising SMRT was like robbing Singaporeans to give to Temasek Holdings

Building MRT was right. Privatising it was wrong

Building the mrt was good for me. I made a lot of money from SMRT shares and dividends. Bought it more than 10 years ago and sold it recently. Bought another batch about about $1.30 and offloaded it during the acquisition by TH.

good for TH too. but it is morally wrong for PAP to take singaporeans' asset and give it to TH

Management for smrt was pretty screwed up when they over the years retrenched lots of capable engineers and technicians and started to grow the rental business. It was only a matter of time before the infrastructure would start to break down repeatedly despite multiple stop gap measures of fixing.

smrt went for maximum profits by reducing expenditure, maintenance and servicing. this caused much damage to the system. although it can be directly attributed to SPW's negligence, the pap is the root cause of the problem. Now SGporeans are paying the price of pap's negligence

Uh...the so called privatisation is a load of BS..it was right hand give left hand. The smart etc was given to Tema-sick. And who own Temasick? Pap hor ....so what privatisation u all talking about? So even if PSA privatise also given to Tema-sick to fatten it's coffers...real privatisation does not work like tat..and anyway..in Ang not lands..a lot of stuff is privatise but it does not mean better for the consumers. But public to being privatise Singkieland style really takes the cake.
