The developer must have been fan or a relative. Or it could be a coincidence as not many younger Singaporeans would have heard of The Crescendos
There was also a band "The Siglap Five". They must have been from this area too :p

Ahh yes.. The building is now painted in green.. Used to be a durian shop called Durina Cafe if I'm not mistaken.. You're right.. Its a vacant now since its undergoin renovations.. Hope they change the colour of the building.. Seems bit strange to have the building being painted green.. If memory served me right, there used to be an Indian Muslim frame making shop nearby..
Lead singer of Siglap 5 is now a Malaysian Datuk.. Think he migrated there in the 70s.. He was a an old friend of my uncle.. My Uncle being very fluent in Malay used to minggle with the band members back in the 60s.. The lead singer attended my uncle's 2nd wedding in a hotel back in the late 80s..
Bro, wonder if it was Jackson 5 1st or SigLap 5 ?..

Wahaha ! , wu yia bo ?...Jackson 5 started as Jackson Brothers. They must have been inspired by Siglap 5 and roped in the other brothers to form Jackson 5
Death of Susan Lim
In 1970, Susan Lim was 22 years old and engaged to be married to John Chan York Lee. After completing her final university examinations, Lim went on a holiday to Malaysia
with her fiance and some friends and relatives.
On 8th February 1970, while at a beach in Kemaman, Trengganu, Susan was swept away by strong waves despite attempts by her fiance to hold on to her. The body of Lau
Kheng Khuang, another member of the party killed in the accident was recovered, but Susan's body was never found.
Shortly after the accident, the National University of Singapore awarded Susan Lim a Bachelor of Arts honours degree in absentia.
Unlike other bands of the 1960s that reunited over the years for nostalgia and charity events, the Crescendos never regrouped as they felt that Susan Lim could not be replaced.
Wahaha ! , wu yia bo ?...
Oh, such a sad story. Not being to Locate the body must be the worst part.
You must have been a big fan of Susan Lim and The Crescendos ......
