More questions surrounding Dr. Todd's death!

Senior consultant forensic pathologist Dr Wee Keng Poh emphasized three points to show that Dr Shane Todd's death was consistent with hanging and not garrotting which is strangulation using a cord.

SINGAPORE: A senior consultant forensic pathologist on Thursday took the stand on the fourth day of the Coroner's Inquiry into the death of American researcher Shane Todd to explain the autopsy conclusions.

Dr Wee Keng Poh, who has been practising for more than 40 years, supervised the autopsy that was performed on Dr Todd's body.

Dr Todd was found hanged in his apartment in June last year.

Dr Wee emphasized three points to show that Dr Todd's death was consistent with hanging and not garrotting which is strangulation using a cord.

Dr Todd's parents believe their son was murdered over his work at Singapore's Institute of Microelectronics but Dr Wee noted that the ligature marks around Dr Todd's neck were typical of hanging - in that they extended from below the chin towards the back of the neck in an inverted 'V' shape.

If he had been strangled, the mark would have been more horizontal and completely encircled his neck, leaving no gap.

Dr Wee also noted that at the time of the autopsy, there appeared to be no haemorrhaging or fractures inside the neck, neither were there any scratches around the neck which would have indicated a struggle to relieve strangulation.

There were no signs of external injuries to the upper limbs and hands.

Dr Wee's findings were corroborated by two independent experts whose reports have been submitted to the Court.

The Todd family had also submitted a report from an expert they consulted - Dr Edward Adelstein, a Deputy Medical Examiner.

Dr Adelstein had expressed the view that Dr Todd's death was a homicide, referring to what looked like blunt trauma to both Dr Todd's hands as evidence of a fight.

Dr Wee explained on Thursday the bruise-like discoloration to Dr Todd's hands as "postmortem lividity" in which blood pools in the dependent parts of the body due to gravity.

The Todd family then put forward more photographs taken around July 4 last year at Dr Todd's wake, which showed what appeared to be scratches around Dr Todd's neck.

Their lawyer then asked if it was possible the marks could have been there but did not show up during the autopsy.

Dr Wee reiterated his point that the marks had not been present when Dr Todd's body was examined in Singapore.

The hearing continues.

These people came here and now must have been taken aback by the forensic efficiency and meticulousness with which the State has conducted its investigations.
So much so that the only thing they can say is that their son's body should have been left hanging in order to preserve the evidence. Pathetic people!
Only the foreign news outlets, in search of a good conspiracy story, will continue to indulge this family's fantasy. However, I would not be surprised if the FT, a more reputable paper, is now regretting having put together that initial story whose contents relied heavily on what the parents said.
Next time anyone sees an ang moh hanging by his neck or with a knife sticking on his stomach, please don't touch or help hor. Otherwise people say you trying to destroy evidence.

Just let that poor fellow hang around. Even the paramedics should not do anything. Everyone just wait for the USA embassy staff and their super csi team to arrive, no matter how long it will takes to wait.

Don't help even if it is not an ang mo.
These days, you try to touch or help and someone will later claim that you made the rope tighter or stuck the knife in deeper.
At most just call the police or the ambulance.

I juz read that the Todds threw a tantrum making more accusations against the police. Even this believer of the tendency of our police to do incompetent things (Example) thinks the Todds’ are going to far, now that a FBI report contradicted them

The external hard drive accessed by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) three days after American engineer Shane Todd was found dead in his Singapore apartment in June last year was identical to the one the Todd family handed over to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to examine in March this year, according to a report by the FBI.

At the ongoing coroner’s inquiry into Mr Todd’s death, the court heard yesterday that the FBI had come to this conclusion after the SPF had officially asked the FBI on March 19 this year to confirm whether the two external hard drives were, in fact, one and the same.

The FBI’s report appears to conflict with allegations made by the Todd family in a Financial Times report earlier this year, where his parents Richard and Mary said that they found the hard-disk drive at Mr Todd’s apartment themselves and kept it.

According to the SPF, Sergeant Khaldun Sarif took the Seagate hard drive back to the Central Police Division after he was called to the scene of Mr Todd’s death on June 24, 2012. After viewing the hard drive on the night of June 27, 2012, he gave it to Mr Todd’s parents on June 28, 2012. (BT 15 May 2013).

Interestingly, they still do not deny the implication of the FBI report that they lied:

Their claim that they had found the hard disk drive has been central to their claims that their son did not take his own life. As I wrote here, I was about to stop reading the FT story and bitch to the FT that a reputable paper like the FT had better things to do than print the rantings of grieving parents. I didn’t because I next read that they claimed that had found the drive which implied that the police had missed it. The claim put things in a different light: our police could have cocked up, like over the Suntec beatings (Incidentally, we still don’t know the result of the police disciplinary action against the investigator. Can a PAP MP or Mrs Chiam ask? WP MPs presumably too busy handing out contracts to supporters)

As they had then wanted the FBI to supervise the investigations of our police (which annoyed me), the FBI finding that the drive given to them by the parents, is the same as the one the police gave the Todds, tells us they misrepresented the facts.

Sergeant Khaldun Sarif was generous to the Todds, yet they behaved like vicious snakes towards him. He could have played it by the book and retained the drive. He handed it to the parents and look at what they did. They claimed to have found it to give credence to their claims that their son was murdered, putting him in a bad light: that as investigator he had missed the drive.

The Todds are bad or mad: that’s the conclusion any reasonable person would draw from the FBI report. Grief over the death of their son is one thing, trying to fix Sergeant Khaldun Sarif or blame others is another. But would bad people lie about the origins of the drive, and handed it over to the FBI? So grief may have driven them mad, and they tot that they found the drive?

shane's mum is a Christian pastor right?
does Christianity condemn those who commit suicide to hell? If yes, then that's why she is so upset.

Does her mum's church has any ties with Kong Hee's network of churches??

Sure or not. I thought the proceedings thus far discussed the laptop, not the portable hard drive.

If the Financial Times has discovered that it was duped by these Americans I just hope it does the decent thing and come out and say so.

Re: Waste of coroner's time: Yankee Go Home!

Nelson Lee, a private psychiatrist who treated Shane Todd two months before his death, said he diagnosed the 31-year-old American with major depression

I smell fish here....is this the standard practice of doctors to let patient with major depression go just like that?
