Najib must answer on the misuse of 1MDB funds, says Muhyiddin

Darker days for Malaysia coming up?

Wonder how this 1MDB saga will affect the sentiments of property investors. Many other foreigners are starting to pull out of various investments.

It's really sad for a country with so much land and resources but the government has mismanaged it. There is so much potential in what Malaysia can do if there is much less corruption. Malaysians will suffer and this is not going to attract new investments.

Is there no way to make Najib answerable for his actions? Clearly a very huge sum of money is unaccounted for in 1MDB. There is something not right with the laws there.....

What do you expect in this country when the AG can be sacked immediately without notice and a public prosecutor abducted and murdered in broad daylight.
The newly appointed AG can dismiss corruption charges on the PM when millions from a govt agency were banked into the PM's account because the AG was satisfied that the PM wasn't aware about it (but went ahead to spend the money).
The Bank Negara recommended charges to 1MDB for gross misdeeds but the newly appointed AG dismissed it as "lack of evidence". Instead the Bank Negara can only impose a fine (undisclosed amount) on 1MDB.
The Audit General's report into 1MDB which contains some extremely damaging revelations was classified as "Secret Office Document", so the public will never know the secret dealings.
The best part - US$1.8 billion was supposed to be send to the joint venture partner IPIC in Abu Dhabi but was sent to another similar name company in British Virgin Islands and this company is now gone.

Actually the best part is now they are debating on the "upgrade" to Islamic Law to "increase" the punishment, basically that just show the competency of the Malay leaders. There is fire burning in the backyard and they are deciding if they should trim the grass. Wondering are they taught prioritizing in their academic years.

Maybe they need a distraction....and time spent debating on this distraction may well get the general population who are more mindful religiously than financially to be involved in this.

May I remind all that Malaysian Islamic laws actually a State based law where the Sultan himself is the Head of Islamic Religious Affairs. No one, not even the Agong, Najib or the entire Parliment House can impose religious laws on any States without the individual Sultan's approval.

And how do you make sure that Johor Sultan does not approve Islamic laws?

I suppose the MY govt knows this as well. But if all they want is a protracted distraction from the 1MDB fiasco, and if it works out that way, then their goal also considered successful.

This Islamic laws proposals had caused property investor jitters all over.

It has nothing to do with 1MDB. It has more to do with making Chinese angry with DAP Lim Guan Eng who had signed a agreement supporting PAS Islamic Party to set up Islamic State during the last election. And the PAS in turn supported DAP on that basis. That agreement has been widely circulated on the internet. After the election, PAS got the blessing of their Kelantan Sultan and start a motion to push for this bill. Of course now DAP and PAS has gone separate ways. BN is just digging up a opportunistic festering wound.

How does this affect the property scene? For me, I would only buy into those developed States and those States that have BN majority Government such as Johore, Pahang, Melaka, Negeri Sembilan and Federal Territory states like KL. Selangor and Penang are too developed to have any drastic changes. It is good to know about the background of the Royals too. Business savvy Royals are Negeri Sembilan and Johore. Those States eg Melaka, Penang which do not have Sultans but Yang DiPertua (appointed Heads) normally follow the wishes of the sitting State Government. Royals of Selangor and Perak are educated, fair but very firm in religious matters.

Now investing in properties also have a new dimension. It is a localised geo political scene. Interesting....

This is a typical countering tactics to force people to get off the govt's back on 1mdb and to dilute or divide opposition by opening up more fronts.

The big problem is many sultans are just lame ducks and many had probably benefitted handsomely from the Bugis pirate's billions.
So, some will just keep very very quiet.
They all knew how their country was robbed of billions of USD via 1MDB by this Bugis pirate but see what kind of actions / reactions from them??

Johor and many parts of Malaysia will be a very nice place to live in if they are run by a clean and efficient government. If they resolve to work hard, instead of behaving as lazy buggers who always want money through corruption, from the high level politicians down to the lowly low-ranked policemen, by now they would have been a 1st world country with solid GDP. Singapore, being a tiny island, will be dwarfed by its immediate neighbor. But thankfully, or unfortunately, this will not happen.

I know which one you are referring to. To me there is still a big diff in that item by item, in terms of corruption and abuse of power , Malaysia is unmatched except with the most pariah states on this planet.

We are grateful people...Malaysians know the source of the water we drink from.

Yes and I am trying to make Singaporeans also be grateful of what they have, don't every day think that Malaysia can offer them good life. It is mainly for Malaysians.
