Police are advising members of the public to practise caution when dealing with online sellers after a 64-year-old man lost S$50,000 to an import/export website.

According to the police, the victim had found that the online seller was selling merchandise that he was looking for at a cheaper rate.

The seller was also identified as a reliable merchant as he had a 'gold class member' rating.

However, after he paid more than S$50,000, he was told that despite signing a contract, he would have to pay the remaining sum for the items to be delivered.

He was also denied the deposit when he requested for it to be returned to him.

The victim then engaged the services of a foreign company to investigate the seller and realized that the seller did not have the capacity to deliver the promised items.
