PM Lee is telling the truth. Some of you fail to understand him properly and have unfairly criticised him!
Here's 8 top reasons why:
1. If you're poor, Singapore has Bedok Reservior and many HDB flats to end your misery. Where else in the world can you find a nice place than Bedok Reservoir to end it all. Heard they recently build a cafe at Bedok Reservoir selling expensive coffee so as the rich people from the condo drink coffee and enjoy the serenity of the reservior, the poor can eliminate their misery in it.
2. Singapore has the biggest income gap among developed Asian countries and the 2nd biggest income gap in the developed world. That means there are many poor people around so you don'[t have to be lonely being poor. You have lots of company.
3. If you're poor, can affod to die but cannot afford to get sick. So you don't have to waste money and pain trying to prolong your life for serious illness.
4. Singapore has elitism rebranded as meritocracy. Which means we have the best paid leaders in the world. So if you're poor you can still tell yourself you have 0.0000001% chance of making it all the way to the top to earn the highest salaries in the world.
5. Singapore also has most expensive cars and public housing in the world. Electricity and water is more than double that of Hong Kong. Singapore is always among to 10 most expensive cities in the world. Being poor in a place where things are so expensive give you added motivation to work hard because if you don't you have even less. So Singapore is a very motivating place for the poor;...our poor are the most motivated in the world.
6. In Singapore if you're poor, you can never make it to retirement because you will never have enough CPF or savings to retire. This system is superior to countries that give everyone a pension once they reach old age because you never get lazy, sit around and become obese and unhealthy. It is one way to make sure that the poor have a healthy lifestyle by working them all they way to their coffin.
7. Singapore has no minimum wage and competition from cheap foreign labor, So imagaine if you're poor, you are not only poor but have to keep competing against the flood of foreigners - PRCs, Indians, Bangla and Pinoy. Making the poor competitive while the highest elites our leaders eliminated a large part of the competing opposition through a draconian authoritarian poltical system and reserved for themselves the bestest jobs in the GLCs and public service helps create a sense of excitement for the poor while the elites suffer the boredom of stable comfortable jobs at the top. This is all very considerate and caring our elites.
8. Poor people in Singapore are so poor they cannot afford to start families so they don't have to suffer the burden of supporting children when they are poor. In other countries, the govt help the poor raise their children. The govt is very thoughtful not to add to the burden of the poor by discouraging them from having children.
