Looks like we might see a change in the usual make-up of candidates offered by the PAP in 2016.

It is expected to include the usual scholars, academics, labour leaders, etc, and one of two "Lilians". The remit is not to taint them with NTUC, SPH or any GLC links. Also not married to prominent people such PPS, superscale etc. Also not working in the past or present for a spouse of a minister, MP as in the Hri Kumar / Kate Spade episode. The only thing not clear is would they want to take anyone from its general and YPAP membership.

I suspect they will trawl both the PAP and those working in the social and charitable sectors.

I am sure this would be come as quite disheartening to those who were in the reserve lot during the last GE.

Two aims - one to show that they are with the people and start removing the elite tag and second to get genuine rapport with the man on the street.

Its a deeply systemic problem. For years the various PAP sychophants have been feeding an erroneous picture of how the average Singaporean thinks and feels about various policies. All interactions between the PAP elite and the grassroots are highly sanitized, artificial affairs. It has become institutionalized and I suspect the top brass knows it but finds it almost impossible to reverse as the mindset a deeply ingrained aspect of governing culture.

The business lobby has more direct access than the common man to the govt inner clique, resulting in the skewed policy toward foreign labour and wages.

Not sure if they they know and understand the problem on the ground. One of the things raised on the over representation of lawyers is that the poor and the less affluent are likely to meet lawyers and certainly lawyers who are PAP MPs. Note that people like Tan Cheng Bock and Lily Neo are both doctors who run clinics in HDB central. They meet everyone from middle class to the poor and the needy. It is no surprise that they always bring issues that hurt the common man.

I cannot recall a single PAP lawyer doing or saying anything about the lower income. I do however recall the stunt by the clown who drank the tap water for the press.
