SINGAPORE: Singapore's ruling People's Action Party (PAP) has appointed six replacements to fill vacancies in its Central Executive Committee (CEC), the party's highest decision-making body.

Three of them are new Members of Parliament (MPs) and office bearers who had contested in the May General Election.

They are Acting Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports Chan Chun Sing, Minister for Education Heng Swee Keat and Minister of State for National Development and Manpower Tan Chuan-Jin.

The other three are Senior Minister of State for Information, Communications and the Arts & the Environment and Water Resources Grace Fu, MP for Moulmein-Kallang GRC Denise Phua as well as Deputy Speaker of Parliament and MP for Marine Parade GRC Seah Kian Peng.

The party's second organising secretary and Minister for Defence Ng Eng Hen said the six were chosen through a poll of Branch Chairmen and cadres representing the PAP branches, district committees, the Women's Wing and Young PAP.

PAP Secretary-General and Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said the new CEC line-up represents a good balance of older and younger members.

He said its priority will be to implement changes to the party, to adapt to the new political environment and strengthen itself to lead the country into the new era.

The new CEC elections will be held at the next Ordinary Party conference.

The party's CEC is chaired by Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan.

Last month, six PAP members announced they were stepping down from the CEC.

They include Singapore's two former prime ministers Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong as well as former party chairman Lim Boon Heng, who did not contest the general election in May.

Who is this Seah Kian Peng guy? Understand that he is the Income CEO but still.... maybe LHL wants people he can control in the CEC but end power always rest in the voting cadres and presumably the Lees still have the numbers needed to control the country from there. Don't understand the appointments. Grace Fu probably brought in the dress up the group following Lim Hwee Hua's exit, while the rest of the guys (CCS, HSK and TCJ) are the new "trusted" generation.

Fair price I think.

CCS, HSK and TCJ really rise very fast within PAP considering they just joined the party early this year now become cabinet and PAP CEC members!

if PAP still in power after small lee's era either one of them will be the future PM

It doesn't really matter who are in the CEC. Everything is being run by one man. That man with the rare nerve disease. It doesn't matter if he's in the CEC or not, or whatever title he carries, he is still the one pulling the strings. All these are just wayang to fool the people that changes within the PAP are the order of the day. Fat hopes! As long as the man with the rare nerve disease is still alive, it will continue to be a one-man show with all those below him YES men. Granted that some within the PAP ranks sincerely know the need for change and would work towards change, but that one man is simply too powerful. No one would dare challenge him. For that simple reason, how S'pore will be governed will never change as long as he's not up the lorry as forummers here aptly put it.

One obvious sign of that are the things he said at the many recent forums he has been invited to. All of a sudden after he stepped down, there are so many of such forums springing up and with him as the invited guest! This is to provide platforms for him to spew his nonsense and to get back at the 40% who voted against PAP. For example, he stuck to his view about foreign workers even though everyone else in the party had acknowledged the ills it had brought to the country. When the Old Fart issued his decree to open the floodgate for foreign workers, the rest simply obey, but they all overlooked that the infrastructures are inadequate to cope with the inflow. And why they overlooked that? Simply because the Old Fart never pointed that out to them. They just do what they are told by him, they don't think on their own. So Spore is in this very sad state of affairs where everything is up to one man, not even his son.

You have to bear in mind that the chap is 90 and with at least 2 illness. If we can put up with the Singapore for the next 5 years he will go - but you think things will change when he goes, I don't think so.

Many within the PAP truly wants to seek change for they know that if they don't, they will likely to end up as the opposition in Parliament the way things are going. But it's the Old Fart that is standing in their way because he's of such character that it doesn't matter if the PAP ends up losing but that he gets his way. It's all about himself. He already said at the NTU Forum, it wasn't that PAP did not do a good job these past 5 years but that the people voted wrongly. So if he goes, things will change albeit slowly.

As to your point that he's already 90 with 2 illnesses at least, that's exactly the problem, despite these, he still won't let go and no one dares to act otherwise
