NUS Top Tier Univeristy?

According to Gan Kim Yong, we are a great educational hub. He quoted this list

saying that we are top in the world... when I look at the list, I know something is wrong because how can NUS be better than UC Berekely???

Someone should the miniStars, how many Pappies have a degree from NUS, for that matter how many have a local degree. Also asked, which PM has a local degree? That should show how "top" the local university is. Even the Pappies don't bother going to local uni.

If our uni is really very top, then we wont have so many foreigner professors and lecturers liao leh. Our local students if really so good from NUS, why then, we let in those foreigners?

If our students no good, then who is responsibly of teaching them?

It depends on who is talking and what you mean by top-tier. All I know is that NUS has an internationally well-regarded Pharmacy department just like Nottingham and Hull is highly regarded for law or Harvard for its business degrees. Then there is also the study/living environment and the quality of discourse and intelectual exchanges among the students and the teaching staff; freedom of expression and free debate with no censorship.

Has NUS discovered anything to be called world class.Although we have one of the highest rate of bird flu and HINI infection, our self proclaimed world class universities came out with nothing .Our highest paid ministers in the world even supplied us with Tamiflu whoes expiry date has to be extended.Too much monies is being wasted on useless projects like the YOG and table tennis -which do not benefit the man in the street.

Despite this army of armchair naysayers I still maintain my position that NUS is a pretty good university in terms of getting a tertiary education in Singapore.

If the university has no really standard or some form of international recognition then there wouldn't be any foreigners, Japanese and mat salleh studying here at all. They would go to humbler nations like Malaysia and Indonesia instead.
