Why do people believe the MOE's statement without question?

Unless they are part of the unquestioning 66.6% ?

In this case, believe who then?

Thio, who based her allegations all on hearsay, 2nd accounts from parents n not the student participants themselves?

Fuck, I rather believe the PAP now than a biased fundie.

I think boliao has a point. The MOE reply:

The schools that engaged AWARE found that the content and messages of the sessions conducted were appropriate for their students and adhered to guidelines to respect the values of different religious groups. The schools did not receive any negative feedback from students or parents who attended the workshops and talks.

In particular, MOE has also not received any complaint from parents or Dr Thio Su Mien, who was reported to have made specific claims about sexuality education in our schools. MOE has contacted Dr Thio Su Mien to seek clarifications and facts to substantiate her claims.

Doesn't say anything but shirks the responsbility to the schools, students and parents. And what they don't hear, don't exist. Wonder if anyone from MOE actually reviewed the programme.

And many parents' complaints may not be there becos, honestly, how many kids actually talk to their parents. But, I'm amazed that there are NONE, as claimed by MOE.

If Dr Thio did not tell lies, it will make MOE looks really silly.

Anyway her husband, Thio Gim Hock is a Prophet? Stated not by me but by his church members.

God's Gift: Our Miracle Child
by Adrian & Esther Toh

May 2005

My wife Esther and I have always yearned to start a family but known that it would take a supernatural act of God because by the time we married in 2000, Esther had already undergone two major operations for uterine fibroids.

Her first operation took place four years before we met after it was discovered during a routine pre-employment check-up that numerous fibroids up to 7cm in diameter were growing in her womb. She was only 27 then.

Eight months before we were to be married in the year 2000, 14 new fibroids ranging in size from marbles to half a football were detected. As a result, Esther had to undergo an agonising 10-hour operation to get rid of them. With Christian friends and church leaders praying with and for us, and breaking curses linked to the presence of fibroids, we had thought that the worst was over.

When Esther switched from National University Hospital to KK Women's and Children's Hospital late in 2003, her new gynaecologist once again found fibroids in her womb. After this second recurrence, we continued to consult the Master of all healers, Our Father in Heaven, this time through the Healing Rooms at Church of Our Saviour. But Esther's fibroids just continued to worsen until she had no choice but to agree to yet another major operation.

By this time, we had also started to drift away from our friends and peers with children as envy, bitterness, shame and anger threatened to overwhelm us when we compared their growing families with our childlessness. Once when a ministry co-worker we'd been praying for successfully conceived in spite of a genetic disorder, we even wondered if the Lord somehow loves her more than He loves us!

Esther's third surgery took place on 14 April last year and the gynaecologist only had the worst news for me after that. Not only were my wife's intestines all tangled up from her past two operations, he said they were also adhering to her uterine wall and threatening to tear it. As he had also found her fallopian tubes tilted with kinks that would render natural conception impossible, he only had one recommendation for us if we still wanted to have our own children: in vitro fertilisation (IVF).

In spite of his hopeless prognosis, we held on to the knowledge that we have a God who can always do the impossible. Dreaming of the day when we could make our gynaecologist's jaw drop at the good news of Esther's "inconceivable" pregnancy, we continued our visits to the Healing Rooms until June last year when Thio Gim Hock shared a vision that he had been given for us. He declared that within a year, we would be able to have a child. After that, Gim Hock even declared that if it did not happen as he had said, we could stone him for being a false prophet!

For the next four months after that, clinging on to numerous verses in the Bible about children being a gift from the Lord and olive shoots planted at the side of one's house, nothing happened except for our regular visits to the gynaecologist where we were constantly being pressured to try IVF conception. We even cancelled a couple of our check-ups just to avoid our gynaecologist's lectures.

In November last year, on a holiday overseas with my family, we were put up in the bedroom of the daughter of a missionary couple we were staying with. Upon closing the door to her room to do our unpacking, we came upon two torn and tattered posters with these verses on them:

The Lord said to me "Write my answer in large, clear letters on a tablet, so that a runner can read it and tell everyone else. But these things I plan won't happen right away. Slowly, steadily, surely, the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed." (Habakkuk 2:2-3)

"For I know the plans I have for you", declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future…" (Jeremiah 29:11)

Esther and I both burst into tears simultaneously upon reading these verses and we sobbed as we realised that this was the Lord speaking and ministering directly to us as a couple. As we wept, a heavy burden was lifted from our shoulders right there and then and we knew that a supernatural act of healing had taken place.

Back home in Singapore, when our gynaecologist scheduled a womb scan for Esther, we were ready for it knowing that the results would be miraculous. And they were. In fact, the scan revealed such a normal and healthy set of reproductive organs that our gynaecologist never brought up the subject of IVF again.

He didn't need to. At the time of my writing this testimony, guess what? Esther is six months pregnant and scans show that the foetus is perfectly healthy!

After four long hard years of trying for a child, the Lord has finally granted us our hearts' desire.

Yes. They are against all porn. I suddenly remembered just how extreme Fundie X'tianism can get :(

Watch porn - sinful
Think dirty thoughts - sinful
Bonk before marriage - sinful
Use condom - sinful

Although I feel gays should not be discriminated against, what happens to them will not affect me directly. But now .... IT'S WAR!

dear parents,

for your immediate attention. Fwding some more info that prayerfully can help us see the aggresive and thwarted works of the evil one thru the well meaning but totally brain - washed old guard of aware.

I'm extremely saddened and concerned and i felt compelled to share... Just last monday,my son in acjc had for his gp lesson for discussion the topic on alternative family structure frm moe- they were given notes for discussion on topic of same- sex marriage and same -sex parents with adoption of children to form a family unit. With new terminology - pink parents. Students were given a worksheet with questions about what is their idea of a nuclear family unit, what are their views about same -sex parents forming family unit and whether the government in s'pore will legalize gay marriages and whether they are for or against it. During which they also watched a documentary of "a look into lifestyles of some same- sex marriage or pink parent family."notes given were of 2 particular case study of : 1) molly ( toddler ) with 2 moms 2) a gay who wanted to have children decided to cohabit with a lesbian couple and between them they bored 2 girls - of course it showed them looking as happy and adjusted as any normal family. It's scary to think how children will be like growing up in such unconventional and dysfunctional family set up!
My son's response was that of disgust and i was relieved my son's lesson was navigated by a christian teacher. I can't imagine how it will be if its dicussion was led by one who is liberal in this view. My questions are does our mission school have a choice to reject such materials tho frm moe? Though discussions on it can be discussed in a healthy and matured way, is it necessary to put our children in such position that they have to choose for or against something that is so obviously wrong - as long as penal code 377a is still in place? Will the viewing of such images leave confusion in our children's impresionable minds?

My friend's daughter in another jc was given a 80+ paged notes (with pictures of lesbians kissing - not allowed actually by censor board even in worldly magazines.thankfully acjc was more careful with this) the students have to study the notes and sit for a quiz! With notes were offered link to helpline and counselling from aware.(acjc,s does not have)

can we just sit back and not do something about it, as concerned parents? We have been praying for years for our children's well being, maybe it's a call now to go beyond just praying. We have to make our stand clearly and firmly for god and our children are watching us.

Think and pray seriously about it, trust in god's sovereignity (casting out all fear) in this situation and obey his direction.
We do not act as representatives of any prayer group, church or school.we gbold">his!

In the same way that we could accept a drug addict but we cannot accept the act of taking drugs, we also could accept a homosexual but we should not allow our children to be taught that choosing homosexuality is acceptable. It's not a civil right but a personal choice that should not be imposed on our society. Let's protect all the children in s'pore.

Concerned n prayerful,

too long didnt read

True to what I suspected, MOM had NO idea was was in the programme. They are now "probing" after parents start an online petition :oIo:

MOE probes sexuality subject
By Theresa Tan & Amelia Tan

THE Ministry of Education (MOE) is investigating the sexuality education programme run in some schools by the Association of Women for Action and Research (Aware) after receiving complaints from parents.
The move comes two days after the ministry said in a letter to the media that it had not received any complaints about the programme and thus saw no reason to intervene.

But since then, it said, some parents had expressed concern about the content found in an instructor guide for Aware's programme, which had been posted online.

The Straits Times understands that since the ministry's letter was published on Wednesday, the new guard of Aware has encouraged parents to make their concerns known to MOE.

In addition, a petition has been circulating online. It wants the Education Minister to probe Aware's programme.

The ministry is now looking into whether the Aware instruction guide was used for sexuality education workshops run by the group in schools.

It is also reviewing the contents of the guide.

In a statement yesterday, the ministry also said it had received some feedback and queries from parents.

In general, it said, parents had asked for clarification on what students are taught during sexuality education programmes in school.

In response, the ministry said its programmes reflect 'the mainstream views and values of Singapore society, where the majority of Singaporeans hold conservative views of sexuality'.

It added that homosexuality is covered in one lesson for lower secondary classes.

A sexual disaster for teenagers and society
A welfare system that rewards lone motherhood is perverse and wrong-headed.
By Telegraph View
Published: 6:39PM BST 25 Aug 2010

...This is a failure of policy on an epic scale, the result of a 13-year social experiment that has proved an unmitigated disaster. Labour adopted the most simplistic of approaches, channelling all its energies and money into *** education programmes of dubious worth, while making contraception freely available – frequently without the knowledge of parents – to girls who were often under the age of consent. Ministers and officials reacted with horror to any suggestion that moral issues might come into play, while the notion of abstinence campaigns, widely deployed in the US, was greeted with contempt...

...There is strong evidence that the most effective method of reducing teenage pregnancies is not *** education, but the improvement of general education standards, particularly among the poorest, where the problem is greatest...

...Moreover, parents must be part of the process, not kept in ignorance: evidence from America shows that their involvement helps to reduce teenage pregnancy rates. This is because it is the family, above all, that is the key here...
