Taiwanese speak proper English with a slight American accent. Their cousins the Tiongs in Hokkien province of mainland China, however... are not very fluent in English, to put it mildly. You have to go to north to Shanghai or south to Guangzhou (near Hong Kong) to have a higher chance of hearing proper English.
Many DPP supporters have family members with America citizenships. If Taiwan falls, they will be the first to take cover overseas. President candidate William Lai is a very good example of not getting his 2 generation of family members hold Taiwan citizenship in order to avoid them going to war with China.
