Minister for Transport Lui Tuck Yew explained in parliament today that foreigners only made up about 15% of the COE registrations in the last three years, indicating that they are not the ones pushing up prices.
He had been responding to a question fielded by Workers’ Party MP, Sylvia Lim who had asked what the breakdown was of COEs in each category given to citizens, PRs and foreigners.
Giving the exact numbers, Minister Lui shared that in 2012, 2013 and the first eight months of this year, there have been 60,574 new vehicle registrations.
As sum totals, Singapore Citizens made up 51,495 (85%) of these, PRs made up 6,605 of the registrations (10.9%) and non-resident foreigners registered only 2,474 vehicles (4.1%).
Lui explained that these figures are only for vehicles registered to individuals and not companies.
Below is a more comprehensive breakdown of the COE registrations by citizens, PRs and foreigners across each category:

Separately in response to another questions, Mr Lui also explained that they would not be splitting up Motorcycle COEs into smaller categories.
It had been asked by WP MP Muhamad Faisal Abdul Manap why Motorcycles only have 1 COE despite the licenses having three categories depending on the engine size of the motorbike.
Minister Lui explained that splitting up the category even further would not be beneficial as there would be even smaller quotas for each and there may be shortages in some while surpluses in other categories. This could also lead to more volatility in price.

This proves beyond that Sinkies create their own problems despite the fact they blame foreigners for all their woes.

15% is fucking high, foreigners should pay more for COE, many are Jiu Hu kias who buy SG plate cars to escape paying VEP and causing high COE and ERP.

Why should FT buy car here?
They can buy 3-4 times cheaper in their own countries.
Btw, they are chauffeured by local drivers.
They are not stupid.

Transport Minister Lui Tuck Yew, in response to a question from The Straits Times, said he has asked the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to do two things to help improve matters.

One, to see whether the market can be eased into the new growth ceiling of 0.5 per cent in vehicle population that kicks in from August. 'Rather than dropping from 1.5 per cent to 0.5 per cent, whether we can be more flexible in the implementation,' he said.

Two, whether the LTA can further defer the claw-back of past oversupply. This adjustment was originally to be made over one year. Last year, responding to appeals from the motor trade, it was spread over three years.

The adjustment currently reduces the number of COEs each month by 6 to 7 per cent.

Try tweaking the supply of COEs by 15% and see what happened...Liu, Fuck You!

That is fucking horseshit.....how much has the sinkies population grown in the last 10 years?how much has the road traffic grown last 10 years?in the last 10 years we have seen the influx of 1 million tiongs 1 million Indian nationals and countless ang mohs pinoys but u telling me all those vehicles on the road are driven by sinkies and FTS all take public transport?

Now a days there's so many goddam vehicles on the road its like a madhouse, has anyone seen the roads at 7 in the evening?u telling me that is all caused by sinkie population increase?there's so much goddam traffic they had to destroy my neighborhood with road widening projects.
