A lorry driver who caused the death of a Pizza Hut delivery rider was today fined $7,000 and banned from driving for six years.
Tan Chew Chuan, 55, was making his usual delivery runs on Chin Bee Drive on May 3, 2011, and was making a right turn when he collided with motorcyclist Muhammed Firdaus Kassim, 22.
The latter died of multiple injuries at the scene.
A guilt-stricken Tan pleaded against a jail sentence and stated in his mitigation that he would impose a life-long ban upon himself with respect to obtaining a driving license for all classes of motor vehicles, including bicycles and tricycles.
