NASA AND THE BIBLE

Mr. Harold Hill, President of the Curtis Engine Company in
Baltimore, Maryland and a consultant in the Space Program relates
the following development. "I think one of the most amazing things
that God has for us today happened recently to our astronauts and
space scientists at Greenbelt, Maryland.

They were checking the position of the sun, moon, and planets out
in space where they would be 100 years and 1000 years from now.
We have to know this so we won't send a satellite up and have it
bump into something later on in its orbits. We have to lay out
the orbits in terms of the life of the satellite, and where the
planets will be so the whole thing will not bog down.

They ran the computer measurement back and forth over the
centuries and it came to a halt. The computer stopped and put up
a red signal, which meant that there was something wrong either
with the information fed into it or with the results as compared
to the standards. They called in the service department to check
it out and they asked, "What's wrong?"

Well, they found there is a day missing in space in elapsed time.
They scratched their heads and tore their hair. There was no
answer.

Finally, a Christian man on the team said, "You know, one time I
was in Sunday School and they talked about the sun standing
still." While they didn't believe him, they didn't have an answer
either, so they said, "Show us."

He got a Bible and went back to the book of Joshua where they
found a pretty ridiculous statement for anyone with common sense.
There they found the Lord saying to Joshua, "Fear them not, I
have delivered them into thy hand; there shall not a man of them
stand before thee." Joshua was concerned because he was surrounded
by the enemy and if darkness fell they would overpower them. So,
Joshua asked the Lord to make the sun stand still!

That's right, "The sun stood still and the moon stayed - and
hasted not to go down about a whole day!" (Joshua 10:12-13)

The astronauts and scientists said, "There is the missing day!"
They checked the computers going back into the time it was written
and found it was close but not close enough. The elapsed time that
was missing back in Joshua's day was 23 hours and 20 minutes - not
a whole day.

They read the Bible and there it was "about (approximately) a
day." These little words in the Bible are important, but they were
still in trouble because, if you cannot account for 40 minutes,
you'll still be in trouble 1,000 years from now. Forty minutes
had to be found because it can be multiplied many times over in
orbits.

As the Christian employee thought about it, he remembered
somewhere in the Bible where it said the sun went BACKWARDS.

The scientists told him he was ! out of his mind, but they got
out the Book and read these words in 2 Kings that told of the
following story:

Hezekiah, on his deathbed, was visited by the prophet Isaiah who
told him that he was not going to die. Hezekiah asked for a sign
as proof. Isaiah said, "Do you want the sun to go ahead ten
degrees?" Hezekiah said "It is nothing for the sun to go ahead
ten degrees, but let the shadow return backward ten degrees."
Isaiah spoke to the Lord and the Lord brought the shadow ten
degrees BACKWARD! Ten degrees is exactly 40 minutes!

Twenty-three hours and 20 minutes in Joshua, plus 40 minutes in
Second Kings make the missing day in the universe!"

Where You Going?
=========================

Where you going?

Not "where are you going," but "where you going?"

As I held my shoes and socks in my hand, the six-year-old
repeated the question. After the second repeat the
three-year-old joined in.

"Where you going?"

People think that husbands are often bothered by wives asking
them where they are going. That's nothing compared to the two
little ones.

I was downstairs with them so I replied, "I'm going upstairs."

"But where you going?"

They knew that I did not require socks and shoes to go upstairs.

I could immediately answer them, I knew where I was going,
that wasn't the problem. The problem is that children,
like adults, often don't initially ask the real question.

Invariably, whenever I answer where I am going, I am bombarded
with the next question:

"Can I go?"
"Can I go?"

That's the real question they wanted to ask.

I have made it a point that wherever I am going, it is a place
that I would not mind my children knowing about. Whatever I am
going to do, it is something they can be proud of.

Whether you know it or not,
children eventually find out where you are going.

Eventually they ask of life on some level, "Can I go too?"

Don't Give Up On It

You are absolutely right!

But sadly, we are often prisoners of our own-making. We have forgotten that we have a Great Helper but keep worry for nothing. One medical fact that doctors can tell us: Worry kills (and that's no wonder many of us are walking like a 'living dead.")

Hope the following verses will inspire us to worry less.

Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

Traps
=========

I took a walk with a tour guide through the Atlanta Botanical
Gardens. The guide, Lua Blankenship was talking about plants but
the words applied to more than plants.

He pointed out an insect eating plant. The plant was very pretty on the inside
with beautiful and attractive colors.

The inside of the plant had hairs.

The guide said the plant has reverse hairs which makes it easy to get in but
very hard to get out.

The hairs let you simply slip down the inside of the beautiful plant but when
the insect tries to climb out the hairs make it super difficult to get out.

There are many traps that look beautiful. They are easy to get into to but they
are often very difficult to get out of.

The wise avoid such traps.

Someone is headed for such a trap tomorrow.

Please do not let it be you.

One day i woke up

One day, I woke early in the morning to watch the sunrise.

Ah the beauty of God's creation is beyond description.

As I watched, I praised God for His beautiful work.

As I sat there, I felt the Lord's presence with me.

He asked me, "Do you love me?"

I answered, "Of course, God! You are my Lord and Savior!"

Then He asked, "If you were physically handicapped, would you still love me?"

I was perplexed. I looked down upon my arms, legs and the rest of my body and wondered how many things I wouldn't be able to do, the things that I took for granted. And I answered, "It would be tough Lord, but I would still love You."

Then the Lord said, "If you were blind, would you still love my creation?"

How could I love something without being able to see it? Then I thought of all the blind people in the world and how many of them still loved God and His creation.
So I answered, "Its hard to think of it, but I would still love you."

The Lord then asked me, "If you were deaf, would you still listen to my word?"

How could I listen to anything being deaf? Then I understood. Listening to God's Word is not merely using our ears, but our hearts. I answered, "It would be tough, but I would still listen to Your word."

The Lord then asked, "If you were mute, would you still praise My Name?"

How could I praise without a voice? Then it occurred to me: God wants us to sing from our very heart and soul. It never matters what we sound like. And praising God is not always with a song, but when we are persecuted, we give God praise with our words of thanks. So I answered, "Though I could not physically sing, I would still praise Your Name.

And the Lord asked, "Do you really love Me?"

With courage and a strong conviction, I answered boldly, "Yes Lord! I love You because You are the one and true God!"

I thought I had answered well, but...

God asked, "THEN WHY DO YOU SIN?"

I answered, "Because I am only human. I am not perfect."

"THEN WHY IN TIMES OF PEACE DO YOU STRAY THE FURTHEST? WHY ONLY IN TIMES OF TROUBLE DO YOU PRAY THE EARNEST?"

No answers. Only tears.

The Lord continued: "Why only sing at fellowships and retreats? Why seek Me only in times of worship? Why ask things so selfishly? Why ask things so unfaithfully?"

The tears continued to roll down my cheeks.

"Why are you ashamed of Me? Why are you not spreading the good news? Why in times of persecution, you cry to others when I offer My shoulder to cry on? Why make excuses when I give you opportunities to serve in My Name?"

I tried to answer, but there was no answer to give.

"You are blessed with life. I made you not to throw this gift away. I have blessed you with talents to serve Me, but you continue to turn away. I have revealed My Word to you, but you do not gain in knowledge. I have spoken to you but your ears were closed. I have shown My blessings to you, but your eyes were turned away. I have sent you servants, but you sat idly by as they were pushed away. I have heard your prayers and I have answered them all."

"DO YOU TRULY LOVE ME ?"

I could not answer. How could I? I was embarrassed beyond belief. I had no excuse. What could I say to this? When I my heart had cried out and the tears had flowed, I said, " Please forgive me Lord. I am unworthy to be Your child."

The Lord answered, "That is My Grace, My child."

I asked, "Then why do you continue to forgive me? Why do You love me so?"

The Lord answered, "Because you are My creation. You are my child. I will never abandon you."

"When you cry, I will have compassion and cry with you.
When you shout with joy, I will laugh with you.
When you are down, I will encourage you.
When you fall, I will raise you up.
When you are tired, I will carry you.
I will be with you till the end of days, and I will love you forever."

Never had I cried so hard before. How could I have been so cold? How could I have hurt God as I had done? I asked God, "How much do You love me?"

The Lord stretched out His arms, and I saw His nail-pierced hands. I bowed down at the feet of Christ, my Savior. And for the first time, I truly prayed.

The Bargain
=================
During one of the many battles of the era, a young soldier
found himself and his army being soundly defeated by the enemy.
He and his comrades hastily retreated from the battlefield in
defeat, running away in fear of their very lives.

The enemy gave chase. The young man ran hard and fast, full
of fear and desperation, and soon found himself cut off from
his comrades. The soldier eventually came upon a rocky ledge
containing a cave.

Knowing the enemy was close behind, and that he was exhausted
from the chase, he chose to hide there. After he crawled in,
he fell to his face in the darkness, desperately crying to
God to save him and protect him from his enemies. He made a
bargain with God. He promised that if God saved him, he would
serve Him for the remainder of his days.

When he looked up from his despairing plea for help, he saw a
spider beginning to weave its web at the entrance to the cave.
As he watched the delicate threads being slowly drawn across
the mouth of the cave, the young soldier pondered its irony.
He thought,

"I asked God for protection and deliverance, and He sent me
a spider instead. How can a spider save me?"

His heart was hardened, knowing the enemy would soon discover
his hiding place and kill him. Soon he did hear the sound
of his enemies, who were now scouring the area looking for
those in hiding.

One soldier with a gun slowly walked up to the cave's entrance.
As the young man crouched in the darkness, hoping to surprise
the enemy in a last-minute desperate attempt to save his own
life, he felt his heart pounding wildly out of control.

As the enemy cautiously moved forward to enter the cave, he came
upon the spider's web, which by now was completely strung across
the opening. He backed away and called out to a comrade,

"There can't be anyone in here. They would have had to break
this spider's web to enter the cave. Let's move on."

Years later, this young man, who made good his promise by
becoming a preacher and evangelist, wrote about that ordeal.

What he observed has stood by me in times of trouble, especially
during those times when everything seemed impossible:

"Where God is, a spider's web is as a stone wall.
Where God is not, a stone wall is as a spider's web."

Fiber or Toys?
===================
'' I'm at the age when
you choose your cereal for the fiber and not the toy!"

Although I laughed when I read it, I realized the deeper truth
of the statement. There comes a point in life and maturity when
you make choices not based on the frivolous things but on the
things that really matter.

The older you get, the better you can see which is which.
At least that is the way it is supposed to work.

The world gives us toys, things that look exciting but are not
the main point. The less mature you are, the more you get
things for the toy appeal, and the less you get them for the
higher purpose.

"The only difference between men and boys is the price of their
toys." That is a rather well known saying. Maybe the real
difference between men and boys is that real men need less toys.

It is not really a function of age. I've seen old men still
fascinated and focused on toys while neglecting the important
things of life and family.

Choosing a woman based on curves not character or choosing a man
based on cash not character; toys.

20, 30, 50 or 80, age doesn't really matter, only maturity.

Three dictionary definitions of fiber are:
1. Something that provides substance or texture.
2. Essential character or structure.
3. Basic strength or toughness; fortitude.

Three dictionary definitions of toy are:
1. An object for children to play with.
2. Something of little importance; a trifle.
3. A bauble

Fiber or Toys?

Good question.

"When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a
child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man,
I put away childish things."

...and Man Gained Pounds
==================================

God populated the earth with broccoli and cauliflower and
spinach and green and yellow vegetables of all kinds, so Man and
Woman would live long and healthy lives.

And Satan created fast food. And fast food brought forth the
99-cent double-cheeseburger. And Satan said to Man, "You want
fries with that?"
And Man said, "Super size them."

And Man gained pounds.

And God created the healthful yogurt that woman might keep her
figure that man found so fair.

And Satan froze the yogurt, and he brought forth chocolate,
nuts and brightly colored sprinkle candy to put on the yogurt.
And woman gained pounds.

And God said, "Try my crispy fresh salad."

And Satan brought forth creamy dressings, bacon bits, and
shredded cheese.
And there was ice cream for dessert.

And woman gained pounds.

And God said, "I have sent you heart healthy vegetables and
olive oil with which to cook them."

And Satan brought forth chicken-fried steak in the restaurant so
big it needed its own platter. And Man gained pounds, and his
bad cholesterol went through the roof.

And God said, "You're running up the score, Devil." And God
brought forth the potato, a vegetable naturally low in fat and
brimming with nutrition.

And Satan peeled off the healthful skin and sliced the starchy
center into chips and deep-fat fried them. And he created sour
cream dip also. And Man clutched his remote control and ate the
potato chips swaddled in cholesterol. And Satan saw and said,
"It is good." And Man went into cardiac arrest.

And God sighed and created quadruple bypass surgery.....

And Satan created HMOs...

Our treasures vs God's

The cheerful little girl with bouncy golden curls was almost five. Waiting with her mother at the checkout stand, she saw them, a circle of glistening white pearls in a pink foil box. "Oh please, Mommy. Can I have them? Please, Mommy, please?" Quickly the mother checked the back of the little foil box and then looked back into the pleading blue eyes of her little girl's upturned face. "A dollar ninety-five. That's almost $2.00. If you really want them, I'll think of some extra chores for you and in no time you can save enough money to buy them for yourself. Your birthday's only a week away and you might get another crisp dollar bill from Grandma."

As soon as Jenny got home, she emptied her penny bank and counted out 17 pennies. After dinner, she did more than her share of chores and she went to the neighbor and asked Mrs. McJames if she could pick dandelions for ten cents. On her birthday, Grandma did give her another new dollar bill and at last she had enough money to buy the necklace. Jenny loved her pearls. They made her feel dressed up and grown up. She wore them everywhere, Sunday school, kindergarten, even to bed. The only time she took them off was when she went swimming or had a bubble bath. Mother said if they got wet, they might turn her neck green.

Jenny had a very loving daddy and every night when she was ready for bed, he would stop whatever he was doing and come upstairs to read her a story. One night as he finished the story, he asked Jenny, "Do you love me?" "Oh yes, daddy. You know that I love you." "Then give me your pearls." "Oh, daddy, not my pearls. But you can have Princess, the white horse from my collection, the one with the pink tail. Remember daddy? The one you gave me. She's my very favorite." "That's okay, Honey, daddy loves you. Good night." And he brushed her cheek with a kiss.

About a week later, after the story time, Jenny's daddy asked again, "Do you love me?" "Daddy, you know I love you." "Then give me your pearls." "Oh Daddy, not my pearls. But you can have my baby doll. The brand new one I got for my birthday. She is beautiful and you can have the yellow blanket that matches her sleeper." "That's okay. Sleep well. God bless you, little one. Daddy loves you." And as always, he brushed her cheek with a gentle kiss.

A few nights later when her daddy came in, Jenny was sitting on her bed with her legs crossed Indian-style. As he came close, he noticed her chin was trembling and one silent tear rolled down her cheek. "What is it, Jenny? What's the matter?" Jenny didn't say anything but lifted her little hand up to her daddy. And when she opened it, there was her little pearl necklace. With a little quiver, she finally said, "Here, daddy, this is for you." With tears gathering in his own eyes, Jenny's daddy reached out with one hand to take the dime-store necklace, and with the other hand he reached into his pocket and pulled out a blue velvet case with a strand of genuine pearls and gave them to Jenny. He had them all the time. He was just waiting for her to give up the dime-store stuff so he could give her the genuine treasure.

So it is with our Heavenly Father. He is waiting for us to give up the cheap things in our lives so that he can give us beautiful treasures. Isn't God good? Are you holding onto things that God wants you to let go of. Are you holding on to harmful or unnecessary partners, relationships, habits and activities that you have come so attached to that it seems impossible to let go? Sometimes it is so hard to see what is in the other hand but do believe this one thing... God will never take away something without giving you something better in its place.

The greatest gifts happen when you share love and touch others.
