The check-out person tried to scan the items, but they wouldn't
scan so she manually entered the prices. I noticed that she
only charged me 25 cents for the cake when it was 50 cents for
the larger size.
For a second I thought, "It's only a quarter; what's the big
deal?" But I couldn't do that, so I pointed out that she under
charged me.
She looked shocked that I spoke up; I guess because the error
was to the store's disadvantage. She smiled and said, "Thank you
for being honest." I walked out feeling a little lighter.
When I got outside, a man approached me and stopped me. He said
that he had had a bad day and felt that the world was full of
bad and dishonest people. But he was behind me in line and
heard me correct the lady and that because of my actions he knew
that there were honest people in this world. He blessed me and
walked to his car.
Now 25 cents is not much, it will no longer even buy a phone

The Silent Years
There are times when God will speak to you and then be silent
for an extended period of time. Silence does not mean you have
been forsaken by God. It simply means that God has spoken,
and now is the time to allow the word that He spoke to germinate
and come to pass.
Silence is not the same as peace. Silence is the absence of
noise, but peace is the presence of God! While you are going
through "silent years," you should focus on inner peace.
Inner peace produces outward confidence in the face of negative
circumstances so that we can go forward in the assurance that
even though tribulation is coming against us, we are more
than conquerors over it!
The Greek word for peace actually describes a spiritual
equilibrium no matter whatever may seek to upset us. The
biblical meaning of peace never denotes the absence of trouble.
Peace is not the absence of negatives but the presence of
positives. God's peace is inward and spiritual and never
predicated by contrary circumstances or negative events.

Thank God it's Monday!
I get to go to work today.
I am all too aware of the popular version of this phrase, TGIF,
but I'm thankful I get to go to work today.
If you'd prayed over as many prayer requests recently as I have
you would understand. You feel people's frustration from months
of looking for a job as bills run high and hope runs low.
“A job, a job, a job,” over and over in so many requests.
We often fuss and complain about what so many others are praying
for. We dread it, mock it, condemn it, and curse it.
Yet, it's the thing that puts bread on our table, clothes on our
backs, and a roof over our heads.
Yes, God is the provider of all but He commanded, "Six days
shalt thou labour, and do all thy work." God commanded a job.
It's the thing that we spend most of our waking hours involved
with. It's a shame if we dread what we do most in life.
I've found in business that it's not really the type of job
that makes the real difference, it's the attitude. I've seen
two people side by side, doing the same work, one in paradise,
the other in hell. It was viewpoint, NOT circumstances.
Even when the job changes, the pattern eventually repeats.
When I worked in a warehouse, I loaded boxes off trucks.
We didn't have a forklift, they used hand trucks.
I say they because I carried my boxes by hand. They mocked me.
"Why don't you use a hand truck?" they taunted.
I didn't use one because I saw the boxes as exercise, not work.
I moved more boxes faster by hand than they did with the hand
trucks. When I left work I didn't need to go to the gym. I had
already received my workout and gotten paid for it. It was a joy.
The other fellows left griping about how many trucks came in and
how hard they had to work.
Same boxes - different viewpoints.
I view my job now in the same manner as the boxes.
All honest work has value beyond money. You just have to be
able to see it and appreciate it. Even if you can't see any
value beyond the money, try going without that money for a year.
Boxes, driving, typing, managing, building, cooking, serving,
cleaning, creating, selling, growing, producing or whatever...

Different Kinds of Diamonds

Many years ago, when my children were quite small, I was brought
to the realization that we don't always recognize our real
riches.
One morning, as my neighbor was visiting me with her children
and my children were running around doing what kids do, there
was a handy man putting a new floor in my kitchen.
He was very friendly and was talking to my friend and I while he
was banging away at the floor. He happened to notice the
diamond ring on my friend's hand and complimented her on it.
It was really quite beautiful.
At that point, I glanced down at my hand and I felt kind of bad
because I only had a wedding ring and no engagement ring. I
just kind of blurted out to the gentlemen that I didn't own a
diamond.
He looked at me and said, "Oh, yes you do. I see your three
children playing right now. Believe me when I tell you that
those are your diamonds."
Well, I learned something that day.
I also learned as years have gone by that my diamonds have not
lost their luster. They have all grown up to be happy,
purposeful, shining adults, and they continue to bring brilliance
into my life.

of the statement. There comes a point in life and maturity when
you make choices not based on the frivolous things but on the
things that really matter.
The older you get, the better you can see which is which.
At least that is the way it is supposed to work.
The world gives us toys, things that look exciting but are not
the main point. The less mature you are, the more you get
things for the toy appeal, and the less you get them for the
higher purpose.
"The only difference between men and boys is the price of their
toys." That is a rather well known saying. Maybe the real
difference between men and boys is that real men need less toys.
It is not really a function of age. I've seen old men still
fascinated and focused on toys while neglecting the important
things of life and family.
