Charlie Hebdo to print 1 million copies of 'survivors issue'

A "survivors' issue" of Charlie Hebdo coming out next week will also be sold outside France because of the huge global attention on the satirical weekly after the massacre of its top staff – marking a turnaround for a publication that just a week ago was on the brink of folding.

The remaining employees of the paper are putting out the special edition next Wednesday, with 1 million copies to be printed instead of the usual 60,000.

In a sign of the international support, the slogan #JeSuisCharlie has now been used more than 5 million times online, making it the most-shared hashtag for France-related topics. A march on Sunday under that banner will be attended by French and world leaders.

MLP, the French company distributing Charlie Hebdo, has done deals with several other press distribution groups, notably Naville in Switzerland and SGEL in Spain, to sell the edition, industry sources said. Negotiations are going on with companies in other countries.

Many countries that have never seen Charlie Hebdo – a comic-heavy newspaper that delights in testing taboos and taste with its take on current events – are also calling for copies to come their way.

All money from sales of the issue are to go to the families of the 12 people murdered in the attack on Charlie Hebdo's offices on Wednesday by two Islamist gunmen.

The massacre wiped out five of the newspaper's leading cartoonists. The surviving members of the publication are working in premises loaned by the newspaper Liberation to produce the new issue.

Chief editor Gerard Biard, who was in London on the day of the attack, said it will include some works by the killed cartoonists.

Contributions offered by other cartoonists around the world were declined, with the remaining staff preferring to create the edition themselves. They are all working for free and – despite their grief – with characteristic dark humour.

"What are we going to put in the pages?" Biard asked at the first post-massacre editorial meeting on Friday.

Patrick Pelloux, one of its columnists, quipped with a nervous laugh: "I don't know. What's in the news?"

The sudden global prominence of Charlie Hebdo, which before typically sold only half of its usual 60,000 printed copies in France, has saved it from imminent bankruptcy.

The newspaper, named after the American comicbook character Charlie Brown ("Hebdo" is French slang for weekly), had only in November made a public appeal for donations to keep going.

Back then, of the €1 million it sought, it received only €26,000. Closure seemed inevitable.

But now, French media have rallied around the title to offer whatever help it needs, and the French government is looking at releasing public funds to bail out Charlie Hebdo. Several government agencies have taken out subscriptions. Even banks have become subscribers.

Prime Minister Manuel Valls dropped by on Friday to lend his official support to the staff, who have in the past lampooned him and other politicians.

Keeping Charlie Hebdo going is now being seen in France as an act of defiance to the Islamists who sought to extinguish it, and a testament to free speech.

Devout Muslims, though, have been incensed in recent years by some cartoons Charlie Hebdo printed mocking their prophet Muhammad.

In 2006, Charlie Hebdo became a major target for Islamists when it reprinted 12 cartoons of Muhammad published by the Danish newspaper Jyllands-Posten in a statement for freedom of expression. The cartoons, including one that showed the Islamic prophet wearing a bomb in a turban, had sparked violent protests in several Muslim countries.

In 2011, the newspaper's offices, empty at the time, were firebombed by suspected Islamists. Any depiction of Muhammad is considered forbidden under Islam.

Charlie Hebdo's staff, including several of those killed, had long refused to bow to demands to avoid such sensitive subjects. Instead they redoubled their provocative efforts.

"The newspaper only defended freedom of expression," its lawyer, Richard Malka, said last week, adding that it "paid a heavy price for that".

Re: French magazine staff killed because of comic

21th century is the century for china. 22th century is the century for Islam. Since Europe taking so many of them now every year, it is a matter of time they become the politic power of Europe. They can use the nuclear arsenal to defeat USA and China and conquer the world. That is the the utimate goal of the death cult.

Fascinating theory. Bumpz. Food for thought, I am hungry.

is it really about freedom of speech

I am not taking sides, but as an outsider I have this take of the paris incident.

why is the cartoonist still making fun of mohamad when they've been warned so many times

freedom of speech they say

then why does france abide by the holocaust denial

where is their freedom of speech on that

why do they shut their mouth and not have cartoons on that

on one hand they abide by the jews requirements throwing their so called freedom of speech and on the other hand they perpetually make fun of Mohamed

I guess those fanatics just couldn't take it anymore

of course we don't agree with the killings but when pushed against the wall, they have no other way but to retaliate

that's just my take

Charlie Hebdo Shootings - Censored Video

Evidence that sheds doubt on the official story regarding the Charlie Hebdo shootings.

I'm going to show you some footage of the Charlie Hebdo shootings which has been restricted or taken down from a number of websites. As you will see it contains no blood, gore or graphic violence. It does however punch a major hole in the official story.

You can draw your own conclusions.

The following clip was played on France 24. You'll notice in the middle that a section is edited out.

Let's look at the clip that was edited out.

Now if we zoom in and slow it down you'll see that the officer isn't actually hit by a bullet. There is a blast that hits the sidewalk just in front of him, but he is clearly not hit in the head as the corporate media is claiming.

Let's watch it again. Notice that the head isn't rocked by the blast as it would be if he was actually hit. Notice the plume of dust about a foot in front of him as the shot hits the ground. This is a AK-47. A hit to the head would splatter blood and brains all over the sidewalk.

Anyone who claims that this footage shows someone being hit in the head by a 7.62×39mm round either has no experience with guns, or is lying. This is a big bullet that does massive damage and makes a bloody mess. This officer was NOT killed by a gunshot to the head.

My first thought here was "ok, they missed". Just one problem. Every single mainstream media outlet is claiming that he was finished off with a shot to the head, and that's blatantly false.

So then you have to ask, what else are they lying about?

Funny thing is, these guys went to the trouble to put on ski masks, but for some reason, according to the authorities, they decided to leave their identity cards laying in the get away car. That's how the perpetrators were identified. Really? Come on.

The other funny thing, the suspects wound up dead, so case closed.

Now I'm not going to claim to know what really happened here, but we are being lied to, and lies like this mean trouble is coming.

The AK57's nozzle was pointing at the fallen policeman's head so how can the smoke be at a distance away. It is obvious that the smoke was added in later.

Re: Charlie Hebdo Shootings - Censored Video

Guys, dun be so dense can or not.......

So many holes in the official story. This is just one of them. But if the French don't fucking bother, why should we? They're right now having a big celebration in Paris and screaming 'Who're you? Charlie!" and "Charlie Liberty" and mind you, also in Trafalgar Square, London, where there is a large French colony.

PS: The 2 bros robbed a gas station immediately after the attack. Does this sound so similar to the Boston bombing's 2 bros, who robbed a 7/11 store? The ID found is also similar to the pristine passport found that belongs to Atta at WTC, 9/11 and he also left his Koran at a pub, where he also bragged about 9/11 the night before, similar to the 2 bros who shouted Allahu Akbar, as if they want everyone to know they're Moslems committing jihad, yet wearing masks (meaning they do not want anyone to know who they're). Road at scene is totally deserted on a Paris street on a weekday, which is actually impossible, unless it is staged. In another clip that was spliced, French policemen were seen running towards the 2 attackers, but was cut out of the video.
The getaway car had white side mirrors but the car at the Kosher restaurant has black side mirrors.

Other vid shows the getaway car on another road, with doors opened, different from this road shown in this vid, and the 2 attackers were also shown getting out or getting into the car. Obviously, that vid was a rehearsal.

This video was taken with precision, as if the taker has rehearsed the scene and if you look carefully, there're markers on the road which shows this video is a composite of 2 takes.

.....among other clues...........the Israeli channel guy also happened to be at the scene and Hollande appeared half an hour in public after the attack when the 2 attackers were still not caught. Got such thing ah? So brave.

etc, etc.........FALSE FLAG done by the Mossad.

Dun be an idiot...........the Moslems do not have the luxury of time and energy to go after such silly nonsense. Just like Salman Rushdie, who is alive and had went on to be a big womanizer and published other books, even though the Ayatollah had issued a death sentence fatwah on him.

This is already known all over the internet blogs and forum and other social media that this Paris attack is a false flag, conducted by Mossad agents and the French intelligence police GIGN is complicit. Its commisioner of police also committed suicide the day after the attack.......pure coincidence?

Yes. Loong too had no choice but to sue Roy for the untruths uttered. Sorry is not enough. A fitting punishment is to make him bankrupt and a broken man. Such is the fate of those who insult the supreme leader.

Same reasoning.

Why cannot insult Islam? Islam is full of crap and nonsense, and is full of bad ideas. We must have the freedom to criticise bad ideas!

For that stroke of cognizance, I'll vote for GMS if he runs next erection, even though I still think he is a political idiot.

Better an honest idiot than a cunning one.
