Has anybody ever wondered how come when Singapore merged with Malaysia, it is the only member state with the same PM status as the Central Govt? Only LKY had the title of PM and continued to keep it till it left Malaysia. Same title as the Tengku but not with Sabah and Sarawak.
Do you realise this meant one country, two PMs?
That means Singapore joined Malaysia as an already independent country. Singapore had already attained self-government sometime in 1959 - Lim Yew Hock did all the good work to convince the Brits to grant it self-govt but LKY took all the credit for it - and subsequently was granted independence on 31 August 1963 by the Brits having been released the defence and external affairs portfolios. Triumphant after saboing LYH and kissing the British bum cheeks, LKY went on to raise his fist and shouted "Merdeka! Merdeka! Merdeka! " on the City Hall steps. And later hosted a dinner at Sri temasek.
Has anybody also thought about what would have happened if the Merger had not materialised?
Can any smart assed kukubird enlighten us whether we would have slipped back into British rule, because the independence was held in trust, whatever that meant?
This is the crux of the argument.
