In Australia, they throw away resume of FT's. In Singapore, the opposite happens.

A foreign or indigenous-sounding name gives people less chance of landing a job in Australia, a study has found. Unless your name sounds Italian and you're in Melbourne, in which case it can be an advantage.

Australian National University researchers Alison Booth, Andrew Leigh and Elena Vargonova sent out 4000 fake job applications to employers advertising on the internet for entry-level hospitality, data entry, customer service and sales jobs, changing only the racial origin of the supposed applicants' names.

Applicants with Chinese names fared the worst, having only a one-in-five chance of getting asked in for interviews, compared to applicants with Anglo-Saxon names whose chances exceeded one-in-three.

Typically a Chinese-named applicant would need to put in 68 per cent more applications than an Anglo-named applicant to get the same number of calls back. A Middle Eastern-named applicant needed 64 per cent more, an indigenous-named applicant 35 per cent more and an Italian-named applicant 12 per cent more.

In Singapore, if you have served NS and are local, straight away you go into reject pile. The only cuntry that discriminates against their own.

This is possible cos the Ozzies, like any people with common sense, are able to hold their govt accountable and make them work for the citizens. SGs - 60% of them to be exact - do the bizarre opposite and support a Traitor govt to replace themselves. In fact, they feel sia suay if they are being identified with the Oppos!

Many years ago when I was a junior technical services engineer at a European mnc based in Singapore and had to sort out resumes for applicants to a sales position, any applicant who stated they were an officer in NS, I'd toss that resume into the bin. Now I regret my actions, but that was my mindset then.

Cheers!

anyone wonder why chinese are the worst?it seems like people say u should be proud of ur language and ur culture but it seems like anywhere u go in the world, the prcs are the most hated.....of all the asians it seems the chinese get the worse shtick.....i mean i even get ang mohs apologising when they think i am from china, like as though its something disgusting or despicable....is it because the prcs give off a very village and peasantish vibe?and the prc accent i find is really terrible....when msia chinese, hong kies and sinkie chinese speak mandarin i still find it ok,but when the friggin tiongs start up in their putonghua,u start to get a feeling like u went into a time warp back to qing dynasty or something.

It's their country, they can do whatever they think it's in their best interest.

But in our country, we should also put our own people first as Ang Mohs and other associated foreign trash can't be trusted. If the so called liberal democracies do this, why can't we?

well western nations have got it wrong...... they don't know that the type of hair is always indicative of one's character....and Chinese have straight hair.

That company is still around, different owner, different operating name. One of the industrial leaders in that field. What happened during the time I was there was that the holdings company was on a buying spree and acquired a dozen or so small to mid sized companies worldwide. I was working in a mid-sized US company that was bought up too. We were housed under one big roof and the idea was that in any field (I was in industrial construction) that was needed, there would be specialists and experts available in that field - a good idea, but in practice it didn't work. Too many chiefs and tribes, each with loyalty to their previous companies. Each division head kept information to themselves. It was apparent how disunited the company's divisions were. There were lots of expats in there (plenty of Q-plate cars), and they didn't all get along. The ones that did the work were the local Singaporeans. The ang mo bosses were playing politics, and soon one by one left. We covered entire Asia and was the regional training centre and headquarters. I was there the first half of the nineties. That time we didn't have pinoys nor ah nehs, a few Europeans, Aussies ,a kiwi, Canadian, one Japanese. I had a good time there. Singapore's economy was going full swing and lots of activities in the region as well.

Cheers!
