Immigrate to NZ - Singaporean's dilemma

Commonly heard Singaporean's dilemma :

1) country too small, universities not so famous compare with australia, only liveable city is auckland, other cities are too kampung.

2) Houses in auckland too expensive, new houses scare of leaky homes problem, weatherboard houses (wooden) too much maintainence, bricks and tiles built in 70s too old fashion. New bricks and tiles too pricy.
May be wait a bit longer, price will drop.

3) schools in nz too slow, children not getting challenges enough, next time can't compete with friends' children in singapore

4) wife moves to nz first and can look after children, husband later, cos husband difficult to get job here in nz.

Anymore dilemma to add on?

Such S'poreans would do everybody a HUGE favour by remaining in S'pore. Point to note is where such S'porean emigrants with above worries are concerned, many more Asians from lesser countries like Malaysia, Philippines, China, Vietnam, India have succeeded.

1. It is easier for a NZ child to get into a NZ University (there are several between the North and South Islands) than for a S'pore JC student to get a Tertiary Education or the Study of their choice.

2. No matter how expensive houses are in Auckland, 99 yr leased HDB flats which do not even have land stratat titles costs a whooping lot MORE!

3. NZ schools teaching at a slower pace means no need to pay for home tuition and more time for children to enjoy their childhood. What matters more is getting an education to be employable in the world market. Most NZ graduates have very little problem getting jobs in the world because their NZ degrees are recognised internationally. Some NZ graduates (engineers) even work in S'pore as expats with NUS engineers working under them! If I am not wrong, the underwater plastic tunnel at Sentosa (Seaworld) was built by NZ engineering expertise. It does say much about S'pore schools/universities.

Many NZers go on to work in the world after their University. Singaporeans NUS graduates themselves are being squeezed out of the labour market by cheaper foreigners in Singapore itself.

4. Most Singapore men can't find jobs in NZ because they want a cushy office job to match their status and shun jobs they deemed as demeaning. It is all about culture SHOCK. ANGMOHs don't care for status or the job they do because there is a minimum wage of $12.75/hr and NZ does not ship in Banglas to dig roads and empty the rubbish bins, they are all done by local NZ workers themselves.

It is probably true in Australia and Canada. How many major cities can you goto? Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane... no more than a handful of cities. So is Canada. The best place is still USA, there are so many big cities that one can goto and make a living. New York, Chicago, Boston, Detroit, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, Dallas - the list is endless.

Hi All

If potential Singaporean migrants to NZ or Australia have the above qualities, it is suggested that they stay behind in Singapore so that they do not have room to complain. I wish them all the best. The PAP government has brain washed the people to think that every thing Singaporean is good and has the best of quality. This brainwashing is so succesful that most Singaporeans that I meet still have this attitude and I always tell the that If they like Singapore so much why migrate. I beg to differ. Usually migrants come over to Australia, NZ and Canada look for a life-style change, i.e more relax life-style, more family time, wider space, a house with land, cheaper cars etc. If migrants from Singapore who still compare this and that and complain that Singapore is better, then it is wise that they stay behind........Don't migrate and spare themselves of bitching about everything. As Aussies say " Get a life"

NUS/NTU are not popular outside South East Asia either.
Only livable city in Singapore, and its the only city in Singapore.

I have seen some refugees and people from lesser countries doing well because of their attitude. When you comes to this country with nothing, and nothing to compare, and you anchor down hard and wanting to start a new lease of life, there you go and see results.

Unlike many singaporeans, half-hearted attitude and end up neither here nor there.

Which is why when someone migrates, he has to do so for the right reason. He has to know what he really wants and should not do so just because others are doing or others tell him to do so. The reverse is true for staying put in the dot. If you feel that you are comfortable in Sinkaproe and like it here, by all means stay put. Its no point going over to another place and go on bitching about it while comparing everything with Sinkapore.
