Taipei, Dec. 22 (CNA) Taiwan-based smartphone vendor HTC Corp. (宏達電) is expected to unveil its new mid-range HTC One X9 model and put the new device on store shelves after the Lunar New Year holiday in early February, according to technology website ePrice.

The holiday this year will fall between Feb. 6-14. The technology website said that the possible launch time for the HTC One X9 could be in February or March.

However, the technology site said that the smartphone vendor is unlikely to introduce a new flagship model but just a mid-range device at that time.

Last week, HTC revealed on its official Weibo page that it will launch the next generation of its mid-range model. While it did not disclose more details about the new device, there is market speculation that the new model will be the HTC One X9.

HTC said that the new model will be equipped with advanced photography functions.

ePrice said that HTC is expected to price the HTC One X9 at NT$12,000 (US$364)-NT$15,000.

According to an HTC One X9 test report, the new smartphone will feature the newest MediaTek Inc. (聯發科) processor -- the Helio X10 -- a 5.5-inch screen, a 13-megapixel rear camera and an UltraPixel front shooter with Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).

Market sources said that the HTC One X9 has been certified by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as part of the smartphone vendor's efforts to penetrate the huge mainland market.

The sources said that the HTC One X9 will look similar to its predecessor, the HTC One A9, which was launched in October, although the brand logo is expected to be on the upper front of the new model rather than the lower front seen in previous models.

After the launch of the HTC One A9, the smartphone vendor witnessed its sales in November rise 15 percent from a month earlier to hit NT$10.29 billion, a new six-month high.
