While both DBS and UOB's offers comprised cash and shares.....UOB's style was seen as being more diplomatic and face-saving................

............DBS adopted what was seen as a hostile and less-sensitive approach. This culminated in the bank's public apology and $1 million compensation each to UOB's and OUB's respective board of directors for libelous comments made in a document prepared by financial advisor Goldman Sachs, for its Europe roadshow................

Looks like the PR skill of DBS has not changed much as witnessed by the recent handling of the ATM skimming incidents.
Ironically Karen Ngui, the star of DBS's press conference on the ATM incidents used to work in OUB.

The present Chairman of DBS, Peter Seah was the President of OUB during the merger-so I guess there's more to be told.

Cheques, letters of credit, bank drafts etc are merely variations of an old fashioned IOU document. They don't describe an actual monetary transaction. In the financial world, they're known as "Negotiable instruments".
Paying by CASH means taking out notes and coins and handing them over.
