Extraordinary images have emerged showing the extreme physical training China's armed forces are being put through ahead of the Asian Games in November.

The pictures below show soldiers from Guangdong Province taking part in an anti-terrorism drill session at Dongguan Drill Base.

As well as the brutal training, the drills - aimed at ensuring strict security during the event - included a series of fake hostage rescue missions .

Those caught lighting up in public spaces such as offices and conference halls will be charged 50 yuan, around £5.

Also, reports suggest, any business found guilty of 'not meeting its obligations' regarding the smoking ban will be fined up to 30,000 yuan (£2,850)

The Asian Games take place every four years and involve athletes from all over Asia.

The Games are recognised by the International Olympic Committee and have been described as the 'second largest multi-sport event after the Olympics'.

This year a total of 476 events in 42 sports will be contested, making it the largest event in the history of the Games.

The opening ceremony is set to take place on November 12 on Haixinsha Island in Pearl River and will be directed by Chen Weiya, who was also assistant director of the spectacular 2008 Olympics in Beijing.
