Home leave*
When I take my annual leave to visit Singapore, my Aussie mates consider that a return to my homeland for a visit or home leave.

There are at least 30 nationalities on the office floor where I work. So, it is quite nature for people to ask, you are going home for visit - even through they know that I have no longer a citizen. - But it is still my homeland. (Which is true)

They is no sensitivity about loyality to Australia, except for a few old prima donnas who object to modern Australia.

I always wonder how Singaporeans feel about the ex-Singaporeans - worse than the FTs since we give up the country?
Not that I mind, since my hide has thicken to survive the Aussie culture .. and winter.

Vacations
Have anyone sign up for an overseas with your adopted countrymen, example, Aussies.
Personally, I find that it is fun (so long that there are not all retirees), because of the larrikins and "s/he will be fine" spirit.

Unlike doing the SA or Chan Bros tours where we rush everywhere, Aussie tours tend to be slow going.

There are a lot of leisure time and Aussies tend to read book by the beach/swim at the resort. Then, there are those who will go shopping or sightseeing.

If anything, Aussies are attentive when the "lecture" is on. They will resist snapping away but when the guide is explaining. When it is photo-taking, Aussies are pretty creative, making all kinds of poses.

The tours are usually more luxurious. Eg We will stay in a Venice hotel and not stinge on the cheaper Italian mainland hotel.

On the Nile cruise, we will use Movenpick cruise and relax by the sundeck while the Nile villages sail by. The youngsters will show off their sexy dance skills and we will dress up for a good time.

This is understandable - it takes longer time and distance when we travel overseas, and we would rather stay longer, eg 20-35 days tour packages, and experience the real thing.

I have seen hurried China tour groups and I cannot imagine if they are enjoying themselves or not. Eg Our breakfast is usually 1-2 hrs whereas the Chinese is 15-30 mins. The waiters prefer to serve us, even recognise that the Chinese in our groups are different from the Chinese in Chinese group. They fight with waiters over hot water.

Food
No Chinese meals because we eat local. But beer is a must at Aussie tours.

When a tour guide said that this is an Aussie tour group, No one look at the asian migrants differently, even if they are longing for comfort food like meat pies - we do slip off to the MacDonalds when we get sick of Moroccan or Turkish cuisine.

* A relic from the past -

Why 12 weeks paid home leave?
This leave when the POMs take the 3-week boat back to mother England for a 2 week stay and take another 3-week boat back to the convict land - downunder.

Excuse my grammer/spelling in my previous post, it was created with a fellow ex-Singaporean present & I was distracted.

Having gone for more than 10 tours with Singapore and Aussie tours, I find that the Singapore tour leader tend to be more like a mother hen. Aussie tour leaders tend to let us be independent, telling us the time and venue to meet.

When we have older Aussie teens & youngsters with us, they will head for the dance halls. The older Aussies do dress up for dinner in restaurants.

Usually, Aussies will like to chat during dinner, there are always jokes being cracked about our antics (esp when we have the 30s-50s age group)

I have been to same places with Singapore and Aussie tours - The Aussie tours are more memorable because of the more relaxed tour and we can have sit-down coffee or ice-cream break to soak in the atmosphere of the place, be it a marketplace, place of interest, etc.

Prices are more expensive compared to many years ago. Must be the new casino I suppose.

HK, Taiwan China TV programs are introducing Singapore as a destination for fun and food.

After what happened in Japan, people are heading for Singapore too.

Should go CHina.... now 6.9 AUD.

Been there a few times. For historial, sceneric & culture.
Conned by the locals as well, from fake Olympic souvenirs to silk duvet covers.
Conned into tea brick investment.
Spent over $10,000 seeing Beijing TongRenTang doctors.
Special VIP treatment, thanks to Chan Bros Travel boss.
Hotspring resort with China concubines are the best.

No way, after meeting my ideal partner. She is not a typical Jap lady.
She can be rebellious in a sexy way.

Anyway, China already short of women, why add to their misery.

Sometime ago, I did meet a "single" Beijing new on a tour, she worked as massager near Bugis . I was travelling alone after my divorce. We sort of keep each other company along the trip. (spare you the boredom of the details)
Boy, she got really juicy stories of dumb Sinkees to tell.

About a year ago, my angmo co-worker asked me to translate some chinese notes and found out that his Chinese mei mei is part time serving other men. He was train-wreaked!

Guess what, my partner is open to the idea of visiting Shanghai.
Her girlfriend know a Shanghai student here in Perth who has been talking about the city.

Any places to recommend?

Good, shanghai is great. But be careful, Chinese in general still don't like Japanese that much. Just make sure your partner is aware of that. Speak English and you would be fine. Also, expenses in Shanghai is higher in most other cities. If you are on a budget, try other nearby cities, like Dalian, up north, or Ningbo, down south. Could also hop over to Taiwan if you get the chance as well. Also, try the MagLev from the airport.

Will take note of that. Shanghai student did not mention about the dislike for Japs.
Maybe I will know more details later.

My partner used to rent with an Okinawa girlfriend, and learnt the stronger outspoken points from her. She almost punched her ex Greek-Aussie boss who date her and think she is some kind of AV star. Anyway, she complained to his wife later on and hell broke loose.
Bloody Greek, still owe her salary!

Isn't the angmo dumb as well? Come on lah. There are dumb men and women all over the world. No need to disparage us.

Shanghainese are more metropolitan minded then most Chinese. Avoid mentioning you are a Japanese when you are there if possible. You won't get into a trouble even if you do. But its just a precaution you should be aware of. Your partner looks like an AV star? Good on you mate.

Look, one of the dumbest angmo is the late iron-ore billionnaire, Lang Hancock. He is one playboy who married the prettiest girl in town.
But later, when the wife died, he brought in a Pinoy maid and this ugly maid seduced him, made him marry her and build her a palace, Prix d'Amour.

Anyway, I know of angmos with happily married Chinese/Pinoy/Thai/Indonesia women. They are better than some white female trash I see around/work with.
