Go JB buy pirated blue ray - rip blue ray into hard drive - use a media player to play hard drive.

I used to collect vhs- LDs - DVDs and what not. The best is still to rip movies into hard drive. Save space and money and last forever. No scratches and dust to worry about. Quality will always remain.

I have all the disney films ever produced on a WD 3tb hard drive with a A.C Ryan media player. I never have to change a disc or fiddle with a DVD player ever again. I have more than 800 movies at my fingertip.

I also used to download. But download versions dont have the extras that comes with dvd or blue ray discs. Download is still slower than buying a hundred blue rays in 5 mins.

but downloading is free. think some people still collect DVD movies nowadays. many people watch a movie once and never watch it again. so it is quite a waste of money to buy the movies. they rather download from the internet.

Yup that's true. But when you got kids, you gonna have to watch Finding Nemo and Madagascar a few hundred times man.

Also I don't want to leave my laptop on all the time. I use to download alot and it screws my laptop or pc performance. It's just easier to buy. But buy pirated of course. My old original DVDs are already showing it's age. Some are chipping. They lied to us when they said that DVDs can last a hundred years. Those bastards.

I have been thinking about that too, recently I have sold or thrown away my entire DVD collection of movies, for I discovered many which I had paid good money for, starts to disc rot & can not be played anymore. The Blu Rays were ok.

If we rip the bu rays or buy movies on-line & stream it on our display set, will we get the same quality as in sound & picture as those encoded on the disc, that is what I want to know.

I suspect that there isn't even any secondhand market for DVDs or even CDs, and so I may throw my entire collection (of several hundreds) out too.

Come on la why so old school? Just download or stream la. Ask pirated dvd vendor to send to your house is surely the stupidest thing one can do.

my neighborhood video rental shop to rent TVB dramas and Chinese movies is still going strong, over 20 years in business. there are many alternatives to get your shows now. maybe some people don't like to download. but people can subscribe to Starhub for the TVB dramas. think the shops can't get the dramas or movies faster than Starhub. i wonder how those small-scale video rental shops survive nowadays ?

Thanks for letting me know. As part of the de-cluttering process of my pigeonhole I will at some stage box these DVDs/CDs and then decide how to get them off my hands.

So if one day the pirated dvd vendor gets caught along with his address book of customers, your next dvd could be Prison Break Changi

Where and how do you download? I'm worried about bit torrent hackers.

Any suggestion to prevent hacking? Maybe use a network harddisk that plugs direct into router?
