SINGAPORE - Three Colombian men suspected of breaking into two private houses have been arrested. They are alleged to have taken more than $300,000 and jewellery from a terrace house in Yunnan Crescent, after breaking in through a rear window.

Police have arrested three Colombian men, aged between 26 to 28 years, who are believed to be involved in several cases of housebreaking and thefts in the Yunnan private residential estate.

On March 12, 2013, police received a report of a case of break-in and theft committed at a terrace house in the Yunnan private residential estate at approximately 10am.

Various currencies amounting to over S$300,000 and an assortment of jewellery were found to be missing.

Within 5 hours of the report, officers conducted an operation resulting in the arrest of the three suspects at a chalet along East Coast Road on the same day at approximately 3pm.

Various currencies, including S$284,000 and US$25,000 (S$31,140), jewellery, seven mobile phones and various items found in the suspects' possession were seized.

The suspects are also believed to be involved in a similar case which occurred at the Westwood private residential estate.

The suspects will be charged in court for the offence of housebreaking by night with common intention, which is punishable with imprisonment for a term of not less than 2 years and not more than 14 years.

On Monday night, three Colombian men – aged between 26 and 28 – allegedly entered a vacant terrace house in the Yunnan private residential estate in Jurong West.

They made off with currency worth more than $300,000, including over S$284,000 and US$25,000 (S$31,155), along with an assortment of jewellery.

The three men, who were in Singapore on social visit passes, were arrested at their chalet in the east coast area at 3pm on Tuesday within five hours of a police complaint being filed.
