I see it as a continuing drop in quality as a result of the emphasis on lower cost instead of on quality-due to the mass import of cheap and low quality foreign labour.

one of the high profile projects during the 80s was Raffles city, at one time the tallest hotel in the world. The construction workers and contracted engineers were koreans. I heard their work quality was one of the best: 'no fight'. The project was completed ahead of time as well.
With singapore's constant infrastructure building, why haven't we grown our own expert high quality construction workers? Instead of hiring cheap unskill bangla workers who drop dead like flies all the time?

And our BCD approve the building for TOP?
Because old fart is attending they bend the rules?
Highly possible in SG as our top civil servant see him as God
Other people can die.

big resorts and casinos normally have backup generators. what actually happened? no backup generators? backup generators not operational yet? did not test backup power system? did not plan power use well? power gets shorted? forgot to pay the bill? resort too huge a power hog for the sg power grid? bad wiring? someone in kitchen turned on 100 ovens at the same time?

told you the construction and workmanship in the sg concrete rush are shoddy and amateurish.

Heads should fall at BCD. Not only our COURTS but BCD also double standards?

What other departments also double standards? The whole SCUMs led country? Very sad.

Only a midget himself would insist that he is tall.

Remember the time when the sick old lady needed treatment in London, and was told to get in line? Then of course there is the Romanian merry-go-round.

It's interesting that a nation could become so autistic as to lack total self-awareness.
Haiz, in sg there are ppl treat him as god but outside sg, lee who?
Tat is also y sg ppl have such attitude when dey go travelling.

Abt d casinos, no levy for foreigners don sound a gd idea to me too.
I have a fren on s pass, payday, no levy like us, happily went in.
Guess wat? Haizzzz

Our msm has been quite shy about reporting the cock up's at MBS. The following is from Asia Sentinel.

Lawyers are born to litigate and they appear to be considering doing it over the fact that the 1,000 members of the bar association had to sleep without air conditioners the first night of the conference, that the phones in the bedrooms didn’t work, nor did the hot water or the toilets in the rooms and that the spa and swimming pool weren’t open

Apparently, a committee meeting had to be reconvened along a corridor because the piped music playing in the meeting room was too loud and the staff couldn’t do anything about it because the sound engineer was not around. There was also a 30-minute blackout during a key address by the Chief Justice of New South Wales, Australia.

Full article here

If anyone else got details of what happen, please post it up.

It is not corruption, it is not double standard..it is whom you are connected to, and how good is your MEMBERship..."member'?
example: if you have to submit plans to UrA..it has to go through a very strigent checks, which can take a very long time...very, very long time...SCDF etc..

But if you are "member", the very strigent check can be shorten....to a very short time..this is call world standard..which world?.."member"???

And the bottom level construction workers were Thais. This South Korean engineering and supervision plus Thai workmanship did deliver a "no fight" project at completion. However, there sure were fights during the works between Koreans and Thais. One day, it turned into near riot with full face-off, weapons in hands (mostly construction tools). The police had to draw out their revolvers and take aim at them, assuring them that they'd be shot without hesitation if they didn't lay down their arms and talk peacefully.

Thai grievances were of the usual industrial disputes, overworked, underpaid and harsh supervisory control. It was settled over the next few days of negotiations, works resumed and it was never reported by media.

Instead of closing down and solving the problems properly, MBS will be proceeding to the next set of victims come Tuesday next week.

Organisers fret over Marina Bay Sands events

The second meeting to be held at MBS will be the three-day trade show, Hospital Build Asia Exhibition and Congress, starting next Tuesday. The organiser has told delegates and exhibitors to 'temper their expectations' of the facilities, which are still under construction.

Mr Andrew Keable, divisional director of life sciences for organiser IIR, contacted MBS and inspected the conference rooms yesterday after learning that the Inter-Pacific Bar Association had problems with the sound quality.

The KL twin towers were each built by the Japs and Koreans.

Petronas damn smart to have 2 competing builders. They knew the Koreans always want to beat the Japs and the Japs will want to show that they are the best. Each team will also want to complete their tower first. In the end I think the Koreans finished first by working 24 hours on the last bit of the project.

Home Minister then was S. Jayakumar.

It was quite fortunate that the Raffles City cite at one end of Beach Road was under the old C Division, with Golden Mile Complex (Little Thailand) at the other end of Beach Road. Some officers patrolling Golden Mile frequently could speak some basic Thai and made themselves understood quickly.

If power failure occurs in 3rd world countries, the participants just take another break outside for smoke-breaks. Nothing exceptional, no fuss.

Guess we need to lower our expectation to that of 3rd world countries (while still continue to pay TOP of the TOP salaries to 30 people) and get used to such happenings.

More to come.

Anyone still remember we have a roller-coaster somewhere that is not rolling around after only 2 weeks in operations?

But... but... but... according to the PAPzis, we are so fragile we can't afford to give anyone a second chance. That's why 18 yo caught with 16g of heroin for the first time also must have his neck broken on Friday morning in Changi.

Interesting. Do you know who were contracted to build Suntech?

By Wong Ka Shing's very own construction company?

I heard the material used for Suntech was super top quality. the first batch of shop fitters had trouble drilling holes into the walls and ceilings to install the electrics. Yes, it was Li kar shing's first major project in singapore and no cost cutting for building materials. that's why i'm interested to know about the labour component.
