STOMPer Popo was shocked to learn that a new BTO flat at Tiong Bahru is priced at $750,000 even after subsidy and grant, and wondered why Singaporeans blame foreigners for soaring housing prices.

Said the STOMPer:

"I am shocked to learn that among new BTOs released recently, a five room flat at Tiong Bahru is priced at S$750,000.

"Please note that this is the price of a new flat inclusive of subsidy and HDB grant.

"Imagine, if you bought this flat at 750k, what price will you sell this flat after five years?

"Yet, people blame soaring house prices on Permanent Residents (PRs).

"Is this fair?

"An ancient Chinese saying that goes 'when you want to put blame on someone, there are a thousand and one excuses' best explains this situation."

This is not the first instance in which a member of the public has been surprised by the high cost of things in Singapore.

Recently, STOMPer Kacy was amused after reading a report about a man who was selling his licence plate for $1 million.

And the sale of a Housing Board executive maisonette at Block 149 Mei Ling Street for $1 million became a talking point among Singaporeans.

Tiong Bahru is considered a prime area and of course a new customized flat there wouldn't be cheap.

The STOMPer should blame himself and his own retardation for his uselessness in getting it, and get STOMPed to death.

Housing crunch easing: (Guess Who Said These??)

SINGAPORE - The Government hopes to ease the public housing crunch gradually, The Straits Times reported.

National Development Minister (Guess who) told The Straits Times that recent moves to ease the housing crunch are working but "we are not out of the woods yet".

In the past year queues for new HDB flats have reduced and prices have stabilized. About 85 per cent of first-time home buyers were successful in their bids in November 2011 launch of new flats.


This is up from the 45 per cent success rate in May 2011. More couples were also made eligible to buy new flats when the joint income ceiling was raised to $10,000 from $8,000.

Mr Khaw is also keeping a watch on the mass marketing of shoebox units that are 500 sq ft or less, while private home prices in the central region are also moderating.

Mr Khaw gave this assurance: 'Having gone through many (property) cycles, I can only advise and remind that things don't go in a straight line.'

The Straits Times also reported that prices of new flats have increased by one to two per cent since the May 2011 General Election.
