food from food courts and hawker centers in sg, is hands down bar none the most affordable compared to any top 20 cities in the world. sinkies don't appreciate how lucky they are when it cums to hot, freshly cooked food.

but my food expenses still high woh,at least if i live in australia my $16/hr min wage everyday eat restaurant and bistro and cafe also can.if want eat cheap just eat at chinese restaurant or mom and pop or subway.
here dont say restaurant or bistro,1 meal at mcdonalds=$8 to $10.almost 20% of my daily salary thanks to no min wage and cheaper better faster.

Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen said yesterday that Singaporeans find the cost of living high because we have high aspirations to buy lots of expensive things.
He gave an example of how hand phones have become somewhat of an essential for children these days and most households have TVs and multiple computers.
Ng Eng Hen said that in a sense, cost of living has been going up because people want to have more things per household.
He also noted that real wages (wages after taking into consideration inflation) have been going up.
He was speaking at a dinner held by the Singapore Medical Association attended by over 450 medical professionals, marking the 55th anniversary of the Singapore Medical Association.
He also spoke about what changes need to be seen in the area of healthcare, citing three areas for improvement.
Dr Ng said that we should be focusing more on living well instead of living long. He also suggested that GPs should have a wider scope so that they can help to ease the pressure on hospitals.
Another area where Singapore's healthcare could use improvement is to make healthcare jobs more attractive to Singaporeans.
He also said that doctors need to be socially conscious and they should have a say in how the healthcare industry is run in Singapore.

We don't pay 1970s price for HDB flats, for transportation, for health care etc. Since when is the mobile phone taken into the calculation of cost of living index?

Not so long ago, our then Tharman minister said that inflation did not affect the population at large because it was caused primarily by the rising COE and car prices at the time that he made the statement. Obviously, he was not aware of how businessmen make money - they do so by passing on the costs.
Just look at the way beer prices have increased - way above the real increases to the businesses.
If you're including COE and car prices in your basket of goods for computing the inflation rate, you are indeed quite the basket case.
