ITE places kids in professions where wages are suppressed by the Tripartite. In Australia the min wage is A$23 per HR. It can be easier to get PR in AU with blue collar skills. In 10 years, many of these kids will be in AU living the good life with landed house and nice car while dumb Sinkies struggle to pay off COE

If government is truly sincere about uplifting ITE and poly kids, start at the top. Name non U grads to top cilvil service positions. Name non Ungrads non scholars to ministerial positions. Name a former grab delivery chap as transport minister.

many civil servants, degree holders in private sector, officers in uniformed service make more than $10k a month before 40 years old.

Singapore is like US now, given the same efforts, the employees are paid better than SME towkays.

That's why we hire a lot of beautiful, kind souls from Myanmar, Malaysia and Philippines to be nurses in hospital or nursing homes at 1/3 of $10k. These are truly foreign talents who are here to help us.

Every time, realDonaldTrump interacts with them, he's really envious of their husbands.

Some have anxiety issues, ADHD and ASD, they may not perform well academically but they can be master craftsmen if they pick up a particular skill-set that they are good in.

Even in administration, eg I know an ITE grad in TTSH who is the best performance in her departure. Many doctors who are going into private practice want to poach her. Another went on to be a partner in HK advertising firm. Also know another who owns a paint shop that is so reputable (because of his knowledge and advises), that Nippon Paint and ICI got seek his input for technical support (According to him, Berger's recipe is shit these days hahaha)

There are so many more examples of these beautiful minds who can't fit into our education system's typical O Level Subjects.

The rest are your thugs and bullies who prefer to spend time betting football, vaping and fucking virgins in school. Some of them will sign on army because their gf will be pregnant by then.

The Big Read: ITE sheds 'it's the end' tag after makeover but students, graduates still face prejudice

Screenshot-2023-08-05-122742.png

  • The Institute of Technical Education (ITE) has come a long way since its founding in 1992, with many of its graduates going on to do well in further studies and their careers
  • The Government has also pumped in vast resources into developing ITE, which is now seen as a model vocational education provider by other countries
  • Despite this, there are still stereotypes here of ITE, including how its students are below-average academically, have low self-esteem and lack discipline
  • Current and former ITE students who spoke to TODAY sought to debunk such perceptions, though some say these have nonetheless affected their self-esteem
  • Experts said that students can be taught coping mechanisms, and more efforts should be made to address the salary gap between ITE graduates and those of tertiary institutions

“When I went to ITE in 2002, I often heard… that ITE is for students who have no hope and cannot study.”

Ms Chan Wai Lim, 43, another ITE alumnus, also recalled people expressing disbelief when they realised that she does not have a degree and was from ITE.

The founder of design consultancy studio Trigger Design added: “The common practice is that people in the design industry have degrees. It’s rare that people in my profession don’t have degrees, what more if you have only ITE and diploma certificates.”

Such negative perceptions about ITE — viewed as the last option for academically weakest students, typically those from Normal (Technical) stream in secondary school — continue to exist, despite the many success stories of its graduates and the vast amount of resources that have been pumped into developing the 31-year-old institute.
Last month, the Ministry of Education (MOE) announced that ITE students who achieved a Grade Point Average (GPA) of at least 3.5 in their Higher National ITE Certificate (Nitec) exams would be guaranteed positions in polytechnics, offering more opportunities for ITE graduates to further their education.
