Agree.

Most young ones do not want to slave hard. Rather they prefer the Air con bank or offices.

My pals are in the heavy industry/machinery business, dried goods and Chinese medical products business.

Turnover is very respectable but none of the children want to do it because "its too hard and not glam(!)".

Oddly working in a bank and berated like a slave and paid pittance is "glam"

There's also another side to the story: in this day and age, piah does not guarantee yiah. The conditions are set against you. The people who do well in business tend to be connected here, connected there to the elites, or are experts at kissing the establishment's ass. So why bother?

More important than money is job satisfaction. Some people just do not have the interest to run their own business. Or they do not have an interest in heavy industry, or Chinese medical goods.

Small and medium business that hire local will not be able to survive. The ah nehs and chinese immigrant bosses will hire their own and pay their workers enough to want to work and live in Singapore for many years until the workers retire overseas and then new one will come to take their place. These ah neh and chinese immigrant bosses can make a lot more money here from small and medium business than back home. You only have to look at the middle east to know what happens when you allow ah nehs or foreigners uncontrolled access into your economy. They control the small and medium enterprises there.

Not only are middle-class Singaporeans being replaced by cheaper workers but small and medium companies here will also be replaced by foreign bosses and companies. In another 15 years, small and medium businesses with big income potential will be largely held by foreigners in Singapore. Singaporeansbe will only own those companies that make ok profit. The PAP has screwed Singaporeans gloriously. Only way to make money here is by exclusive dealership and rents of properties.

MIWs did a super job - that have ensure that that miollion $ jobs will never be gone to FTS

Nothing new in the IT industries players; legally they are considered bankrupt ; it is how they transfer assets prior to their ruling. Bankruptcy is not criminal , would anyone bother as the stigma is already in placed and it serve no purpose when OA is tip off of such cases. The cases are rising but are they really enforcing.

Remember in the 90s when Singapore was being position in the global market. Local enterprises jump on the bandwagon for expansion primarily in China and absorbing Chinese staff by hiring into local business for connections. How many of these major business flopped overnight due to their insurmountable greed and aspirations.

IPC was a leading example of home grown PC in their hay days. Directors driving flashy sportscars parading their status; Bernard Ngiam and his bunch of sales cronies whipping every resellers to commit figures with their arrogance. When service problem exceed sales ; it started their demise and ultimate decline by diverisfication to other products.

Another common problem in IT industries is over expansion; ELMCO was a strong local player in the west of Singapore. When they open too many retail stores at one point, high inventory and high rental finally took a toll. The nice old man was reduced to a pauper literally.

This is the reality of running IT business in Singapore with high risks and uncertainty. How many would risk a life of uncertainty in income with no bonus or benefits or annual leave; or berating by spouses over income. Those that did not perish are either hanging on or on the verge of demise. Probably no one would bother as these are the less prominent players.

How many whom had been in the IT industries before had to take a hard decision of leaving because of its volatility or the pressure of maintaining a sane life by spouses. With the current pampered generation of youth; who wants to take on such risks and inconvenience.
