据报道，准备扁家人的饭菜并不简单，因为晚餐时间，官邸经常冒出许多亲朋好友来搭 伙，所以都必须准备到“办桌”的菜色和份量，同时也传出不管在官邸或“总统府”厨房，陈水扁都会事先交待菜刀的放置位置，据说这是陈水扁为了防止吴淑珍在 气头上时会拿菜刀乱挥，所以都会特别嘱咐菜刀一定要放在高层的架子中，以免吴淑珍轻易拿到。

如果像一般家庭把刀子放在流理台底下的橱柜，吴淑珍即使坐在轮椅上，伸个手完全不费力，轻而易举就能拿到刀子，所以要让坐在轮椅上的吴淑珍能看到刀子却拿不到，官邸里的“御厨”藏刀的地方，可能就在这多加装的橱柜里。
