Forum moving to new server in the next 48 hours

My previous host is closing shop. I have shifted to a new host and am now in the process of transferring the site.

There could be some downtime over the next couple of days and I apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause.

The process of transferring the database may result in the loss of some data but I'll try to keep it to the minimum.

I already have loads of backup copies of the current content. The only data that may be lost are messages that were posted during the transition from old to new server so anyone writing a long essay would be wise to save the content on your computer so it can be reposted if necessary.

there is an option in the WHM that does auto transfer from server to server.. try that option.

i have done it several times , it is easy and reliable and there was no lost of data everytime.

The issue is not the loss of data from the transfer but from the incremental update that needs to be done to bring the database up to date before the new server goes live.

What I do is save a copy of the database in order to move it to the new server.

However while the database is being saved and then moved new messages are still being posted. The database is pretty large so this can take many hours. In the meantime new messages are being added to the database.

When the new server is ready I need to then copy over the additional data and merge the tables. This is where things don't always work.

why don u just shut down the server for a couple of hours and then do the transfer? it makes better sense..
i have done server transfer several time and it usually take less than 2 hours including propagation time

Thanks for preamp KNN ahhh my uncle know this KNN got offline and online backups KNN for online they call it Rman whereby they do all the rollback segments KNN but my uncle thought this is only for critical business KNN for forums offline backups a daily incremental backup can already take care of most data KNN

KNN my uncle think basically for forums is weekly take a full backup and daily take incremental KNN then when need restore time just take that full backup tape and follow by restoring the daily incremental KNN gao tim KNN
