Re: Why does WP MP allow Shamu to deflect the issue?

Our parliament is a joke ...no different from the Communist Party Congress of China. Ministars cannot answer questions on the fly. Questions have to be submitted weeks in advance. Why? The ministars are supposed to be the best, that's why they deserve million dollar salary, their boss claims.

It's because they are the best that they prepare and give well researched information. Or would you rather Parliament be like a cyber forum where they can, like you, stupidly shoot off their mouths with scant regard to the facts?

And how often does our parliament sit? Not more than 2 months in a year! Crap. We need to have parliament sit 9 months in a year. We need a question period every day Parliament sit. At Question Period, the ministars and PM will answer questions from the Opposition and back benchers.

Why not everyday? There's an average of 400 suicides every year. Parliament should sit everyday to argue about each and every suicide.

The Speaker of the House must quit all her party role. Parliamentary committees must have the right to question; no ministar should be exempted.
Every parliamentary committee must have at least one opposition MP. Election Commission must be independent and report to Parliament.

You are truly one clueless idiot. Name me one speaker in a Western democracy who, unless an independent in a hung parliament, does not belong to a political party and has to quit all "party role"?

Stop shooting your mouths with inanities.

Call the parent and ask to bring kid down to station for questioning lah! So simple you dunno? Need to do activate ang chia to school to handcuff the boy? Simple thing why so hard for you to understand?

Cut the crap. No "ang chia" was activated. No handcuffs were used.

Now you see why the PAP votes increased? With each bullshit people like you spout, it draws votes away from the middle ground who don't want the country to be run by populist politicians who are supported by dumb and dishonest voters like you.

fortunately for sinkies, the pariahment doesn't ape the u.s. system. otherwise, nothing gets done.

Many of these freedom fighters have never lived overseas. So they think a gridlocked parliament populated by low IQed politicians who spent their time arguing, throwing chairs at each and coming up with either nothing or at most short term populist policies at the end of their term in office, represent the best form of government in a parliamentary democracy.

Thank god Singapore is run by a competent government.

Re: There are still many unanswered questions on Benjamin Lim case

My criticism is that how the SPF drove him to death.

Please produce evidence that the SPF "drove him to death". Spare me your usual bullshit speculation and dazzle me with your evidence.

Can't produce evidence? Then please shut the fuck up and stop your baseless speculations and using the deceased for your own twisted intentions. You are not that bright that you can pull it off.

I agree with you. Benjamin committed suicide because his fish pet died

Re: There are still many unanswered questions on Benjamin Lim case

That's the problem ...we don't question the authorities. If not for the online fifth estate, the police would have escaped scrutiny and Ben's death would be a non-event.

The actions of the SPF is troubling:
1. Five cops went to arrest the boy in school. Why make it so conspicuous?
2. Shamu says SPF treated boy well ...offered food and drink but it was boy who declined. How to prove? Just take the ministar at his words? No, thank you. He has lied before. If the SPF cared for the well-being of the boy, they could have brought the food and drink to the detention cell. No, SPF didn't.
3. SPF and Shamu presumed boy is guilty, citing the CCTV tape. Is that justice? Guilt is determined by a judge. The evidence has not been scrutinized by the defence. The individuals who identified the boy have not been cross-examined. How can one conclude that the boy is guilty?

If we accept Shamu's contention, then we might as well do away with courts.

That's not true. Questions already made to the authority and answers given but people are not accepting and just saying the authority is lying without any proof they are lying. So the only solution satisfactory to these people is to have another authority to audit this authority.

Questions like why school teacher didn't follow the boy? Cannot as per procedure. Why no video recording? Not current procedure but under study whether to implement.

So, what is wrong with that. In the real democracy, this is called check and balances. An independent committee would have be set up to investigate the boy's death. Do you see one being formed?

Did I say anything wrong? Taxpayers just pay for it only. I don't mind more jobs created for Singaporeans. Hopefully not end up creating jobs for foreigners auditing Spore police.

I think the government was quite even-handed in wanting legal process to take its course. but the court of public opinion prematurely tilted their hands. if there weren't such heated debate and misinformation being sowed on the net, they would have stayed their hand.

Maybe their Public Relations skills weren't so good, hence the screw-up.

Here we are talking about 2 victims - an 11 year old gal and 14 year old boy. these are the real issues.

Sometimes I'd wish they would show us the video that could conclusively demonstrate it was Benjamin who touched the gal in the lift; this might turn the tide of public opinion from sympathy for Benjamin to one of revulsion, but I guess the police can't do that.

More at The Benjamin Lim Case: I guess nobody wins.

The best my foot. If Shamu had to appear before a congressional committee, he would be torn to pieces and his ego busted, leading him to jump from the nearest tall building.

His research sucks because he opened up more questions and he can't answer them. He also hid under parliamentary privilege to defame the online fifth estate and the president of the law society. If he has any integrity, he would apologize or waive his parliamentary privilege.

The debate on SBF is so much better than our communist parliament.

Why not everyday? There's an average of 400 suicides every year. Parliament should sit everyday to argue about each and every suicide.

That's why the PAP wins ...it is because sinkees are stupid. Is the issue Ben's suicide or the role of SPF that contributed to his death? Please lah ...try to be smarter, if you can.

Lots. The Speaker is still a member of the political party but does not participate in party activities to maintain his independence. This is politics 101. Please go beyond the PAP to understand how democracy works.

The government thought nothing of the issue until the online fifth estate started to ask questions, as the press should. Then the government started to take note. But it has yet to answer the questions posed. Instead, the minister, under parliamentary privilege, made false accusations against its critics.

Maybe their Public Relations skills weren't so good, hence the screw-up.
It has nothing to do with PR. The issue is how the SPF handled a minor misdemeanor that led to a death.

Here we are talking about 2 victims - an 11 year old gal and 14 year old boy. these are the real issues.
The accuser is still alive, the accused is dead and pronounced guilty. Where is the justice in this? And who should be held responsible for this? Five officers to arrest a student in school ...what were was the scholar-run SPF thinking?
A minister pronounced the deceased as guilty based on a CCTV recording. Don't we have a judge who is supposed to do that after deliberating the presentations made by the prosecution and defending lawyers?

Sometimes I'd wish they would show us the video that could conclusively demonstrate it was Benjamin who touched the gal in the lift; this might turn the tide of public opinion from sympathy for Benjamin to one of revulsion, but I guess the police can't do that.
This is sinkapore ...everything will be done to make the government look good, including doctoring of the video.
Would the government submit the video to a reputable third party to prove that it has not been doctored?

The question is why did the SPF acted so strong-handedly.
The SPF is run by scholars ...they are the best brains in the country ...and they can't even think of better procedures?
It is the attitude of these elites ...there is NO consideration for the less beings.

Anybody who has a passing knowledge of this case knows there is no ang chia and handcuffs. You not very bright to take things literally. That's why SOP must be written for people like you, otherwise nothing ever gets done in government and uniformed groups.

People's mistrust of the authority is well placed. The PAP has screwed us for 5 decades.

In true democracy, a third party is called in to investigate. SPF can call in the Australian police to investigate.

SPF contributed to his death with the way they handled Ben. Call in a third party like the Australian Police to investigate if SPF has nothing to hide.

Speaking from personal experience, it is so easy for people to make all sorts of wild allegations to destroy someone. The onus should be the one doing the wild allegations to prove. Not the official who have to busy clarifying and proving all sort of lies are false allegations. If not, the society become lawless with wild allegations freely made against people without any basis.
