SINGAPORE: Haze was reported by members of the public on Friday afternoon (Mar 20), with the three-hour Pollutant Standards Index (PSI) reading hitting 102 at 4pm, dipping into the 'Unhealthy' range.

The three-hour PSI reading at 8am was 65, before steadily rising. It continued to increase throughout the day. At 2pm, the 24-hour PSI was 64 to 73.

The Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS) said that the "slight haziness could be due to the accumulation of particulate matter in the air under light wind conditions".

"The situation is expected to improve with the strengthening of the winds later in the day," MSS added.

Student assisting police on fake PMO statement on Mr Lee Kuan Yew - Channel NewsAsia

The suspect is believed to have modified an earlier 2010 PMO media statement hosted on the PMO website and subsequently sent out a photo of the modified content, say police.

SINGAPORE: A male Singaporean student, below 16 years old, is assisting police in investigations into a fake Prime Minister's Office notice on Mr Lee Kuan Yew.

On Friday (Mar 20) the Singapore Police Force (SPF) issued a news release on Friday (Mar 20), saying that at about 10pm on Wednesday, police were alerted to multiple messages that were being circulated regarding a screenshot photograph of a statement purportedly from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) website.

Police established the identity of the suspect within 24 hours, SPF said. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect was believed to have modified an earlier 2010 PMO media statement hosted on the PMO website and subsequently sent out a photo of the modified content.

"The suspect is a male Singaporean student, below 16 years of age, and is believed to have operated alone," SPF added.

The student is assisting the Pplice with investigations for the offence of Access with Intent to Commit or Facilitate Commission of Offence under Section 4(1) of the Computer Misuse and Cybersecurity Act, Chapter 50A, which carries a punishment of a fine not exceeding S$50,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years or to both.

The doctored image prompted broadcasters CNN and CCTV to post erroneous tweets and report inaccurately that Mr Lee had died.

Mr Lee, Singapore's first Prime Minister, is currently critically ill in the Intensive Care Unit at the Singapore General Hospital. He has been in hospital for more than a month, after being admitted for severe pneumonia on Feb 5.

Acting Director of the Criminal Investigation Department, Assistant Commissioner of Police Sekher Warrier, advised members of public not to spread falsehoods. SPF said it takes a very stern view against anyone who doctors a Government website to spread false information to deceive the public. Individuals who do so must be prepared to face the consequences under the law, police stated.

Even though I am not in Singapore with all of you right now, I feel the same trepidation as if I was right there, refreshing all the news sites and keeping close tabs on any development. Whether we agree or disagree with what he has done, we cannot deny that this is a man of great intellect, talent, and ambition to give Singapore the profile that it has and molded it into what it is today. When I represented Singapore as a delegate at international conferences a while back, I was always struck by this one fact - that the massive profile we have as a nation and country is grossly disproportionate to our tiny size. This is in spite of the fact that we have no major differentiating strength or niche. True, it is important for us to thank and give the same credit to the forefathers who built this country together with LKY. But we cannot deny that LKY brought all of these visions together and articulated them in such a powerful way that it not only touched voters, but nations and leaders outside our little red dot.
Whatever the outcome, LKY has led a full life dedicated to doing the best he could for us, and I hope that people will know better and have the sense to respect that, and to respect him for the years he has given, than to bay for blood or cast stones.

But it’s also a fair approach to a balanced view. In “considering not only the good, but the bad as well, forget not to have an objective views of both n at end of journey, look at the total balanced sheet! More good than bad? Or more bad than good! Be careful not to look for the perfect score!

We are now trying to crystalball the next 50 years? Did anyone look back 50 yrs ago to crystalball our last 50 years?

The success of the first 50 years was not even supposed to happen! It’s still n will be etched in spore n world history as a miracle! To any economist, any leader of past n present, for what spore had then, NOTHING(!), we ought to be lamenting the miseries of last 50 years n not criticising the man who made it all happen n now trying to crystalball the next 50 without him!

Perhaps LKY is a victim of his, not only own success, but overwhelming success! The last 50 years was so successful against all odds n initial hopelessness that the only verdict forward must be failure?!

Be grateful. Be demanding if you must! One may have gripes n complaints of the PAP of today. But it’s an entirely different matter compared with the efforts of LKY for making spore what she is today.
