Real reason mrt keeps breaking down: Overworked employees

This friend told me that the real reason why MRT keeps breaking down and causing delays is because of overworked employees.

Both MRT operators require their employees (especially those dealing in train maintenance and operations) to work 7-days straight on rotating shifts.

The MRT breakdowns aren't caused by overworked employees. They're caused by lazy employees who consider working 7 days straight for a week to be their idea of hardship.

When I was working in Singapore, I worked 7 days straight without a break for more than 2 years.

German are not as daft and stupid as sinkies enough said.

After all they are the Aryan race,we are the coolie and farmer race.

A typical post from a chinese dog in which he displays crab in a bucket syndrome.

What this means it's to drag everyone of his race in with him.

He admits he is inferior to another race in this case the germans.

Ok it's his own prerogative that he wants to be inferior but he needs to drag in others with him.

This means all chinese or maybe sinkie chinese are coolies and farmers according to him.

Honestly you should be racially aware then you will notice things like this. It's not we but him himself. After all i doubt all sinkie chinese ancestors were farmers and coolies and even if that was the case so what? If your dad was a criminal does that make you a criminal?

This is the most disgusting factor i hate about chinese dogs. They want to be chinese dogs but yet they strive to drag all chinese to be the same as themselves to become chinese dogs.

[h=1]REAL REASON MRT KEEPS BREAKING DOWN: OVERWORKED EMPLOYEES[/h]
Post date:
5 Mar 2015 - 1:54pm

I have a good friend who works for one of the MRT operators (SMRT and SBS).

This friend told me that the real reason why MRT keeps breaking down and causing delays is because of overworked employees.

Both MRT operators require their employees (especially those dealing in train maintenance and operations) to work 7-days straight on rotating shifts.
Train drivers, station staff, control centre staff, technical staff, maintenance staff, operations staff, etc. are all required to work 7-days shift.

All those staff are overworked and may jeopardise the operation of the MRT trains, or even the safety of passengers.

As the lives of passengers are in the hands of those staff, the two authorities, namely Land Transport Authority and Ministry of Manpower should do a thorough investigation on this matter.

This only happens when PAP is in charge. Enough said!!!

without the pap in charge, it would be worse.....like this, where massive numbers of commuters in both new jersey and new york were stranded.

Maintenance work is different from project works. In projects, we face new challenges and tight schedule. For maintenance, it can be very easy if we are well versed with the system and keep the system in top condition by carrying out routine checks and preventive maintenance diligently. However, if workers are not doing checks properly and management tries to cut corners to save preventive maintenance cost, when the system finally gives way, it will be hell. There was this UPS system for a data centre with hundreds of backup batteries. Maintenance staff routinely went in to sign the maintenance log. One day, the power supply failed and the UPS didn't kick in to backup the power supply. The reason was all the batteries were dry.

This guy told me he volunteered to clean the apron drains every morning during his NS days. The reason is that after clearing the sand and silt, the drain is so easy to clean subsequently as he only has to pick up some dry leaves.

Therefore, the cause of the mrt problem could be attitude and knowledge of maintenance staff or management pushing preventive maintenance to the limit. In Japan, their train systems are much more complex and older but we don't see them facing the same problem.

It has nothing to do with management. It is the peasant sinkie employees that are the cause of the problem. They're probably signing the maintenance check list without even bothering to actually do the checks.

I faced the same problem with my sinkie staff when I was working in Singapore. They had an extremely poor attitude towards work and simply went through the motions.

I solved the problem by hiring Pinoys instead. They worked hard, they appreciated the fact that they were earning excellent salaries compared to what they earned back in Philippines and they were happy to put in any overtime that was required to meet operational requirements.

I fully understand why foreigners are preferred over Singaporeans. It has nothing to do with salaries. It's all about productivity levels and quality of work.

SINGAPORE — Following a series of train-service breakdowns in the past two weeks, SMRT will bring forward some of its plans for improving service reliability, including setting up a centralised maintenance operations centre and introducing a mobile operations maintenance system that will allow field engineers to address technical issues on the go.

The centre is slated to be rolled out next year. However, acknowledging that recent service disruptions — five in nine days, including two on Tuesday — have shaken commuters’ confidence in train services, SMRT president and chief executive officer Desmond Kuek said the disruptions underscore the need for the transport operator to keep up its vigilance and maintenance efforts.

Speaking at a press conference today (March 6), when SMRT also gave an update on its efforts to improve rail reliability over the past few years, Mr Kuek said: “We have taken a rigorous comprehensive approach in reviewing all the underlying problems and challenges in our rail network. And we have taken both preventive measures to deal with some of the most common faults.”

SMRT Trains Managing Director Lee Ling Wee said the new maintenance operations centre will be completed “as fast as possible”. It will be staffed with experts who can direct repair efforts along the rail network. The mobile operations maintenance system will comprise a network of computer tablets set up for field engineers, providing them with access to a technical database and allowing them to snap and upload pictures of any damage.

It also wants to train station staff at stations to troubleshoot simple technical problems before more specialised staff arrive, and speed up staff deployment during emergencies.

Security measures on SMRT’s network are also being reviewed in light of a disruption on Feb 27 caused by a man climbing onto the track between Choa Chu Kang and Bukit Gombak stations. Steps have been taken “strengthen up some of the more vulnerable spots”, Mr Kuek said.

Accompanying these efforts are ongoing plans to replace sleepers along the North-South and East-West line to reduce track faults, and upgrade the signalling system, as well as introduce new trains. In the three years after two major service disruptions in Dec 2011 — which prompted a Committee of Inquiry to investigate and earned SMRT a S$2 million fine — SMRT has increased its pool of engineers from 176 to 288, and grew the number of technicians to 2,098 from 1,728. It has also introduced sensors and instruments to detect potential faults.

Addressing perceptions that SMRT was not acting quickly enough, Mr Kuek said the multi-year initiatives are complex and not programmes one can “buy off the shelves”. For example, procedures need to be changed and personnel trained.

He added: “Even as we are making improvements to the system, the system continues to age. At the same time, we are also dealing with the bringing in of new systems, new capabilities that interphase and interoperate very closely with the existing legacy systems.”

Yesterday, the Land Transport Authority (LTA), which had earlier said it planned to review the operator’s resources and processes for maintaining the rail system, acknowledged that SMRT, together with the LTA, had made improvements since 2012.

Going forward, the LTA will require SMRT to deploy additional staff and resources to facilitate faster service recovery, crowd management and information dissemination, such deploying more service ambassadors to help commuters during disruptions.

To make a long story short.....

TOTAL INCOMPETENCE, DESMOND QUACK!

You are obviously wrong about that.
Our current infrastructure could probably handle 3 to 4 million people & not the extra 3 to 4 millions the PAP has imported.

Wow there seems to be a lack of urgency among the upper management of SMRT. All this should have been done on day one. This is not MINDEF but the commercial world where people expect things to run properly unlike the army.

There is also the upcoming GE & the PAP is not that popular right now.

....

It has everything to do with management. A lousy management with no knowledge of the system and are not sharp enough to spot tell tale signs of those porlumpar middle management saying yes to everything from the top and bullshitting all the way to please the boss. Such management rewards talk cock king and sideline the knowledgable and diligent guys. Soon they either join in the porlumpar or quit. Ultimately, the company is left with a pool of shit.

After the last major incident, the CEO was unable to identify the root cause. Instead, he choses the easy way out, putting the blame on the age of the system. Subsequent breakdowns were attributed to the need to upgrade and operate system at the same time. The best is the last excuse where they said the faults are different for each case, therefore, there is no need for alarm. Such excuses are used everyday and everywhere but our great leaders believe them too. I still believe that if you put a guy like liew mun Leona to be in charge now, you will see the change. Not that I like him but I had witnessed how ruthless and effective he can be for such hopeless situation. All the useless manage staff will pee in their pants and wake up.

the smrt handles skinny sinkies and ft's. whatever passenger load on smrt pales in comparison to the lumps of turd bart is carrying day in day out. 1 fat american passenger is equivalent to 3 sinkies. and not all sinkies and ft's ride the smrt, and even if the number is 80% of total population, not all will ride at the same time. all it takes are 1000 american fatsos riding on the same train at the same time for bart to cum to a complete halt. :p

Or the bullshitting happens the other way - the boss knows fark-all, pretends he knows everything and insists that the staff follow his way; just like in the army. Except this is no army....
