Did you mean fish fingers from birdseye? Man I use to love fish fingers, crisp golden brown and hot, poured lea & perrin sauce over it and had HP sauce on the side with mashy peas:smile:

Too poor to try the fish while I was in UK, but the fish cake and chips with pea curry were yummy!

Do you know whether it is still in biz? The last good tasty F&C shop I went to in London was off Covent Garden, for an alternative this shop served tasty eels. Recently read in the Life section of ST that there is a good F&C shop in Clapham Common.

The best Fish & Chips I have ever tasted was in London. It was a shop called SeaFresh Fish Restaurant just across the road near Victoria Station. I went back many times. Real Britisth frying with selfraising flour or beer in the batter. But I will never know. I once had the skate with crunchy bone cartilages and a generous serving of golden crispy chips on the side. Goes perfectly well with malt vinegar.

You just cited the reason for the closure. They guy opened the restaurant and takeway next to each other but the price differential was enormous. Come out with the same kitchen in the centre and in the same shape and quantity but on plate and not paper.
After a while, the restaurant closed down.
This chap was a funny businessman. He had no concept of pricing, service and he offended the banks by calling all over and asking ridiculous discounts. He also could not cover his fixed costs and royalty base price. Eventually the bank foreclosed his Bayshore Apt which was mortgaged for the business.
Nothing to do with rent. The place did not have any tenants for a long time. I wonder if anyone took over the outlet.

The place closed down because its over-priced ... at the same takeaway counter ... the discounted version taste like bland version of the original priced one ... its poor marketing becoz it gives an impression of cheating ...

No, not fish finger of birdseye, and nothing like local fish cake, texture is more like local nasi padang bean cake or something like that. I have also bought at Harry's takeaway counter before, although not as good.

Agree with you that its the best so far.

I kind of wonder why the land loard wants to raise their rent, its not like the place is a honey pot for bees or something. Any shops that opened there after that closed down in a few months time.

Cos the landlord like me, don't like their food, stupid.

U mean located near the Kallang Indoor stadium? If it is, that's harry Ramsden!!! Fuck the landlords for kicking them out. May the landlords (whoever they are) die of food poisoning!!!!!

Why are you so vicious? They should make way for local homegrown businesses. Sometimes we wonder if you locals actually love your country. You don't mean to say you're going to give your country up for fast food do you?

Despite having tried loads of fish and chips in their tradional homeland UK, some of which are really good, there were 2 others than came out very well - fremantle, Perth facing the fishing harbour and Woolonggong, NSW

Ah yes of course, Cicerello's at Femantle Harbour. And the clam chowder....best in the world. Recall the signs around the open area that reads...."Do not feed the birds or they will SOY"

I googled it and found the link. Yes, it's the same shop: Seafresh Fish Restaurant 80-81 Wilton Road. Victoria. London. Must be the same one with a makeover. Was first there in 1979 on a business trip. Do have a go if you happen to be there. I don't you can go wrong except they don't wrap it in newspapers anymore.

I remember Cicerello's as a good old fashioned little stall before they became the restaurant (about 10 years ago?)

Do they still have the shark bitten canoe hanging in the main hall?

Spot on bro. After you grab your order, plonk it down on the table and thats the sign you see. I asked a friend whats their secret and he pointed to trawlers berthed right in front.

You are officially the Fish and Chips Expert. Kudos to you bro.

Now my mouth is truly watering - hmmmm, is it worth fly to Perth? Yes it is.

I think the land lord is the Garment. The place is practically either URA or HDB car park. Must be one of these two. They simply can't stand anyone making money without benefiting them.

Actually the landlord for the entire plot there incl. Macs and KFC is the Singapore Sports Council.

Yes, Cicerellos is pretty good, was just there over the last weekend. Packed like hell but service/queue was fast. Getting a seat was a challenge though.
