But the uselss shit for brains MOE is being embarassed by some students who manage the dig up the true history of singapore. Song or not, MOE? Better to teach them these sort of original singapore history than send them for 3 days of social ettique training.
Singapore pioneers' exploits unearthed

Ex-Pioneer JC students (from left) Dilys Eng, 18; Gabriel Lim; Lim Hyesu; and Calvin Yeo, 18. They are among the team of 23 students who put together the book on contributions of 12 Singapore pioneers.

SINGAPORE - Bus tycoon Tay Koh Yat was good at moving people: he pulled together a 10,000-strong Chinese Civil Defence force to keep peace and order before the Japanese troops invaded Singapore in 1942.

And after the war, as chairman of the Singapore Chinese Appeal Committee, Tay submitted evidence which led to the punishment of Japanese generals and officials responsible for the massacre of the Chinese on the island.

The Kinmen-born Tay was also part of the overseas Chinese movement involved in the 1911 revolution against the Qing Dynasty.

He is one of 12 trailblazers featured in a new book, 1911 Revolution: Singapore Pioneers In Bukit Brown, by a team of 23 students of Pioneer Junior College.

The 60-page book has old photos, illustrations and sketches of their graves at Bukit Brown, and serves as a record of the 1922 municipal cemetery, part of which will be making way for a highway.

Available at Kinokuniya for $15, the book has had "promising sales", said the college, though the bookstore could not give figures. The college said it is also considering using it for teaching.

Tay's contributions and patriotism left a deep impression on former Pioneer Junior College student Lim Hyesu, 19, part of the team behind the book. "He struck me as a caring and compassionate man, who put the welfare of his fellow countrymen first."

The students - from the college's History, China Studies in English programmes and Art Club - delved into the National Archives of Singapore, and scoured journals, news articles and the Internet. They also made trips to Bukit Brown cemetery to unearth stories about these stalwarts.

Said Madam Carolyn Ng, 37, one of the teachers in charge: "One of the objectives of the books was to also enable students to gain a deeper understanding of Singapore's history and to introduce them to heritage sites here."

The project, which was not part of academic course work, falls under the college's Engaging China Programme in collaboration with the Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall. The e-book version can be viewed on the museum's website.

The book starts with Chinese revolutionary Sun Yat Sen, who came here between 1900 and 1911 to garner the support of overseas Chinese against the Qing Dynasty. It then zooms in on the individual efforts of pioneers here who helped in the 1911 revolution.

It also highlights the contributions of various pioneers to Singapore. Some were business leaders and others were education and welfare advocates. National serviceman Gabriel Lim, 19, said while there were challenges such as getting pictures and data from the 1910s, the effort was worth it. "The book helps make history accessible to many... hopefully this will create a greater awareness of our past and our heritage as Singaporeans

Singapore History Question:

1. Which Govt was in place when the Hock Lee Bus Riots occurred?

2. Who was leader of the Govt who tried to negotiate with strike organisers but failed?

3.Which political Party did the strike leaders and associates belong to?

4. Who was the leader of the political Party that strike leaders and associates belong to?

5. Did any of the strike leaders become a President of the country?

Every time I ask any of these questions, I always get the wrong answer.

Very Good.

1. Labour Front led by David Marshall which won the legislative elections in April 1955
2. David Marshall
3. PAP was in opposition and not pleased with losing out to the Labour Front and began causing trouble within a week of the electoral loss. One month later the riots occurred. The Party Leader was old man and his no.2 was Lim Chin Siong
4. Old Man
5. Devan Nair. He together with Lim Chin Siong and Fong ended up in St John's Island because of it

Sadly our school and the media has carved out a version of history where the PAP is portrayed as courageously fighting the communists and the pro-communists. The intention was to topple David Marshall's minority elected Govt. This was the first time that old man used the left for his own agenda.

When the riots were in full swing, that night old man with his family left by car for Fraser's Hill for a well earned break and rounds of Golf. Knowing full well that Marshall was throughly compromised. 4 people died in that incident and the Chinese Schools students had no clue who was manipulating them.

The irony is that Devan Nair when he became NTUC labour supremo gave the impression that he brought industrial peace and calm to the labour movement.

Try the same set of questions with the entire intake of PSC scholars and I bet you 95% will get it wrong. The power of controlling the media, the schools and our minds.

Let me try....

1. British
2. David Marshall
3. Pap
4. Lky
5. No. I think Devin Nair was already locked up at St John's island?

Lim Bo Seng was a true Chinese Nationalist. why his family didn't send his remains back to China ?

If he was a PRC "Tiong" character, his memorial should be torn down and his remains dug up and thrown away.

I can think of 2 reasons:

The Lim family was (and still is) a well respected family in Singapore. Regardless of his political affiliations, his resting place is here.

Post war China was in an even worse state than post war Malaya with civil war looming. The remains of Eu Tong Sen, who was Sun Yat Sen's trusted Malayan liaison for the revolution, was lost forever when he died in China during the chaotic period before the WW2 broke out. The location of Eu Tong Sen's remains is still a mystery today!

Maybe, though the real history of Singapore has yet to be written dude.
But I think even he is beginning to realize that he created a nation only he can run.

This is the big problem I had with Devan Nair. He was privileged to many skeletons in the PAP and Lee Con You's cupboards. Why not spill the beans? Its one thing for an oppo to criticize the PAP, but its quite another for a former President and PAP insider to reveal the megalomaniac nature of Con YOu, and the deceitful practices and con jobs that the PAP does. It certainly gives it an air of legitmacy. From Canada, Devan Nair could attack the PAP with impunity. WHat has he got to lose? he is already disgraced, and forced out in exile. He has lost everything. His reputation, his home, his money, etc. Its no point to shut up and keep relatively quiet in Canada.

WW II was a Jap v chinese/european allies war. except for those serving the army of the colonisers, other south east asian natives are not involved in the war.
That was why Thailand, a independent nation, was not touched.
The japs actually sent many south east asian native for further education in japan during the war.

Thailand was not touched because they allowed safe landing to the Jap invaders from the north of Malayan peninsula. After the war they paid for their collaboration by ceding land to the Malayan Federation. IIRC, Kedah and even Kelantan used to be part of the Thai Kingdom before the war.

You are correct about the part about giving preferential treatment to the natives. It is well documented that the Malay people were deputised as policemen and even had some sort of political representation during the occupation. This was the divide and rule tactic used by the Japs.
