Renovation to your homes

Extremely messy and costly. Have to remove TV feature wall as well as the cabinets that are attached. Not a "small job". I was told by another contractor it will take at least a week. The expression "vomit blood" comes to mind :*: ....... Hope your Cat and electrical cables are OK.
Wow, can't imagine how bad it must be. Was this after you moved in?

I still haven't gone to test my cables yet; my IT colleague shared a way to test the cables using 2 laptops and a router. But I need to crimp the RJ45 points first.

Sockets and light wiring, will only know after they installed the electrical stuff. I'll leave all my lights, fans and AC running for a few hours to ensure everything is working properly.

Yes, after I tried connecting up my TV to the internet via the Ethernet connection. Thought something wrong with the T.V. Turned out that the Ethernet socket was "dead". So was the telephone socket!! T.V. could connect to the Net using wireless connection.
For sockets, buy one of those night lights from any electrical shops or super art or Mr DIY and test. Lighting is a give when you try switching on lights and if bulbs are fixed then instantly will have results. It's the Ethernet and phone sockets that spring the surprises!!

Public Holidays in Johor State

Just to share. When doing renovation (or any other official biz.) be mindful of the public holidays in Johor State.
Refer here: http://www.johordt.gov.my/en/pelancongan/page/cuti_umum/

Although 1 Jan is not a holiday in Johor (I was told it's the only State that does not observe New Year's Day as a public holiday), no renovation allowed by the management (for Strata Title properties).

Today and Friday are public holidays; so this week is a very short week. Again, no renovation allowed.

BTW, if a holiday falls on a Friday, Saturday becomes a public holiday.

Some Johor companies & contractors may not be aware of these holidays and may make appointments for these public holidays, only to cancel at the last minute. I found out the hard way today. So, check to avoid wasted trips across the Causeway.

You can try my contractor. He is building my swimming pool, yet to be finished as im waiting for pool tiles that I have imported. PM me for their contact if you are interested.
Hi Sandy, how much does ur pool cost? And what's the dimensions? I got a quotation for a single piece fiberglass pool coating RM85k, 13x26x4ft with free cross-current jet, spa seats and jets, pump house and all in.

What's the maintenance cost and schedule for your pool? Thanks.

My pool will eventually cost about 120k, inclusive of the cheaper tiles. The tiles will be my last consideration. Plonk another 15k for those thai lampang tiles, that will make the pool looks like those pools in some of the bungalows in sentosa coves. Not sure about fiberglass pool, don't think it look that nice so I never look at that option. Guess nothing beats the conventional type.
Most of the bits and pieces will be finish after CNY. My gate installation, grill balcony and some cabinet/woodwork fittings to finish too, next week.
Happy CNY everybody.

Dear all,
I am trying to plan how much time (in terms of weeks) I need in total to do these basic reno:
Kitchen cabinet
Grills
Aircon
Lights/Fans
Window film

Have to commute from Sg to My to oversee the above, so from your experience, how many weeks in total I need assuming I do these items one after another in order to avoid misunderstandings between the different contractors. I am not using one main contractor or ID firm. Thanks in advance!

Am DIY-ing with different contractors as well, so share with you my experience. Your basic reno is mostly mutually exclusive except for window film & grills. I would assume the order would be something like:
1) window film
2) grills - is probably a good idea to install this before the rest of the "moveable" fixtures...
3) all the rest - you can probably save time by getting all come at the same day or so and that way you can multi-tasking monitor...

In terms of time it takes, it's normally 1-2 days max for installing each of these reno. It's the coordination part that is the challenge (ie. when are they available to come install / when stock is ready)..

For air-con, you need to take into account copper & water pipe installation (possibly 1-2 days) and the air-con+compressor installation (another 1 day)..

Happy scouting for contractors...

In JB (and very likely everywhere else in the world), it's caveat emptor...so do your research before deciding whether a particular shop is having "good" price.

Johor Jaya area
- Jalan Rosmerah 2/10 -> This particular street alone covers many home requirements - wallpaper, electrical appliances (Haes), hardware stuff, kitchen sinks, lights (Best Light - 2nd floor)
- Jalan Rosmerah 2/1 -> Also another street with many options. Audiomall, Fu Sheng (i hope i got the name correct)...
- There are also shops selling furniture and there are many types with different budgets. For a more "atas" feel, can survey Mylanohaus/ BFO at Jalan Dedap 3

If you don't drown in information by then, you can try Nusa Bestari or Mount Austin or Taman Sentosa or Permas Jaya...

Good Luck!

Nusa Bestari has e widest selection along e stretch of road from Giant to e KFC northwards. I find e smaller shops at cheaper location tend to have better prices for furniture. Electrical items can be bought at E-mart stretch of shoplots beside e flyover.
