Yes I do... haha ! I am unable to blend in with the rest :( - a bunch of emotional harmless prey. My wifey instructed me to tone down, coz they are unable to see what I see. My countrymen many times called me a 'dodgy man' but my company & Angmos considered me an expert, hehe. Coming from a fully compliant background, I can understand why they have reacted in that way.

In the land of Oz, these ppl are the descendant of ex-convicts.. together with the freedom of choice and individual rights, it makes it more chaotic !

Fully compliant residents or require someone to lead their life should stay put in SG.

For the record, I do not think he regards me as his friend anymore. I have not spoken to him in more than a year, and he unfriended a big group of us Singaporeans from facebook.

If you are anything like that as well........

Don't go Canada.

The Canadians are very passive aggressive towards non-white immigrants.

They are very racist, but the problem is that they don't dare to say it to your face, so they just become passive aggressive towards you and constantly give you the passive aggressive, silent treatment.

The whites tend to socially exclude non-white immigrants and set up crazy and insanely high obstacles and barriers to prevent you from entering the job market to get jobs that match your qualifications.

Also, most things are about 25%-40% more expensive than the U.S., even before tax.

The tax in Canada is much higher than the U.S.

Go U.S. if you can.

Indeed. Canada is the worst place to migrate to. Thinking Singaporeans should never come to Canada. It's the worst place to live.

Stay in Singapore. It's the best place to live. You'll never have those passive-aggressive encounters in Singapore. You'll never experience those crazy barriers of exclusion. Singapore is the best place in the world!

I think AU is a worse place to migrate to compared to Canada.

But Canada is far from ideal.

AU is racist and the racism there is outright overt racism.

Whereas in Canada, the racism is passive.

I think it is a matter of which type of racism you can put up with.

U.S. is a far better option, in my opinion.

Passive aggressive?

Oh well still better than active aggressive right?

Anyway I really don't feel this "racism" as you put it. My current employer wanted to promote me and take over a managerial position, and support me in furthering my career in a oil & gas related field dominated by whites. To be honest, all the industry meetings I've had were people who were all white. I was the only non-white. Passive aggressive? Well they were really nice to me man.

But no I couldn't stay in the end despite the very generous promotions, pay rise etc. Why? Because I got offered a spot in the family medicine residency. I thought passive aggressive as well, no chance lah.....but hey they picked me, a first time applicant with no Canadian experience. Frankly I am totally surprised with this because I really didn't try too hard actually!

Singapore is a good place for Singaporeans. Singaporeans first. No need to migrate lah. Money is good, stable country, good jobs, multi-racial, low taxes.. Excellent place to live! Migration is for people like me who cannot make it one.

Racism, job discrimination, social discrimination - don't be offended if white get service first while you are ignored; are all common issues in Canada.

Cost of living in Canada is very much higher then U.S. A jug of milk costs $4 in Canada while in the U.S., the same jug costs $1.

The only people who hires kelings are kelings themselves. Unless they dirt cheap. This is peesai for you and I can safely say that the rest of the world have caught up on NOT hiring kelings. Recently one of Arsetralia's mp was saying that a certain group should look after their personal hygiene better and use deodorant. Im sure we all know which race she is talking about.

Having a white name might land you an interview but not the job. Who are they trying to fool.

It depends on which region you are referring to.

I assume you are referring to Alberta, which I believe does not have the passive aggressiveness problem much.

On the other hand, if you have the misfortune of living in Upper Canada (i.e., Ontario), you would know what I mean by passive aggressive.

And no, passive aggressiveness is not better than "active aggressiveness". Each can be just as bad or worse than the other -- it all depends on how pervasive it is. For example, in the U.S. one can argue that it is the active type -- but the "active" racist incidents (those where racism is stated overtly and in words) are relatively few. You do encounter such incidents perhaps a couple of times a year at the most, depending on which region in the U.S. you are in.

But in certain places in Canada (such as Ontario), the passive aggressiveness is quite prevalent and frequent (i.e., you encounter it several times a week). No words are said, and you simply get the silent treatment and cold shoulders or stares.

I am not sure which is more tolerable. But I think I prefer the U.S. version because it is more open and direct and also it is far less frequent, and you can confront it.

Until now, people still do not recognize a troll for what it is.

And the reason why they continue to exist is because we reply to them. When the satire fails and I have to spell it out so clearly, the irony is lost.

But no worry, those who have chosen to leave have made peace with their departure. Only the sycophants remain triumphant in their counter-insurgency

You may rule for a few more elections, and that may secure the livelihood of you, your family, your children and grandchildren. The precious circle of a few that matters only to you and not the greater good of your fellow countrymen. But the long-term damage that you inflict on the country will be cursed by generations to come.

Those who know you for your blind and misguided support will visit their scorn on your children and grandchildren.

And yet you do not see how you are setting them up for failure in their lifetime when yours has long passed.

Do you reside in Ontario?

I have been living in Toronto for more than 30 years.
There are good and not so good aspects.
No city is perfect.

It is all relative.

A 4 litre bag of milk could be in the range of Cdn $4 (regular milk), of $6 to $7 (micro filtered milk) or $8 to $10 (organic milk).

If you do not reside in Canada, the cost of living in Canada has no relevance to you.

"Misfortune of living in Upper Canada (ie Ontario)"......

Hmmm I guess some people are forced (somehow) to stay somewhere they do not want. Anyway why say that there is this happening in Canada and then say it exists in certain regions and not others? Why not just say " in places like Ontario"?

I personally think that race differences and prejudices will be present always. We are all clearly different in appearance, culture, attitudes, beliefs etc. It is how we co-exist that is important.

I'm happy in Alberta but I am sure it is not the same for everyone else in Canada wherever they are. Live and let live.

I have always maintained that we all are free to choose what we want to do, where we want to live, but it is the price that we sometimes are unwilling to pay.

I have travelled widely, and know about the two places.

Just trust me on this.

I've worked in Alberta & I think it's a good choice for immigrants because many of the Canadians are actually new to Canada: hongkies, Malaysian, americans, europeans with PR, or 2nd generation Canadians.
In Canada if you think you are a victim of racism you can complain to the various bodies: ombudsmen, courts, ...union, etc. It's also a big county & you can always find a place there.

There are so much more problems in Spore: male vs female, ageism, racism, back stabbing,...:o

$4 milk vs $1 milk. $3 difference. That's not going to prevent me from buying a 4 litre jug of milk. Much less choose where I want to live because of that $3 difference.

$20K Toyota Corolla vs $90k Toyota Corolla.....now that's something to consider carefully.

Few Singaporeans would consider Alberta. Most don't even know where it is. They usually flock to Vancouver and Toronto.

Personally I like it that way and I hope it stays that way.

For those who know why they want to come to Alberta, and have a plan how they will make it here in Wild Rose, welcome and nice to meet you

I had a colleague who said that when she went to Toronto to visit her friend, she thought she was in another country when at the Airport. The whole flight was full of south asians. Hopefully Alberta never becomes like that!

All this talk about racism and discrimination and passive aggressive....if you look at the Singapore experience you can see why and how it comes about. It is a two way process. Don't just put all the blame on the local Canadians in Ontario. When the place becomes overrun with foreigners something changes in attitudes indeed.

A balance is very important. I am very thankful that there are no direct flights from Asia to Alberta and it is further inland and not so accessible. It helps to weed out certain types of immigrants.

I agree.

Or a $60,000 Volvo in Toronto vs a $80,000 Volvo before COE In Singapore.

As my old buddy from NS (1970's) told me, Charlie, you have been in Toronto for so long, why bother about Singapore issues.
