SDP under CSJ would claim that it can do just about anything from scratch... err, except perhaps getting any of its members elected to Parliament.

SDP ran 3 town councils from 1991-1997. I would imagine the learning curve was steep in the early days when town councils first came in being. I know at least one oldie is still around - Chee.

We've just heard from GMS a few days ago that WP sought help from SDP some 20 years ago.

Assuming SDP has lost touch, perhaps WP should reciprocate. Perhaps better not, AHTC just received a red mark for arrears.

Accounting software can be bought off the shelf and PAP's system is obsolete anyway. Just cannot understand why some people are fighting over a system so obsolete that it is unmaintainable.

Many Punggol East residents are yuppies working in banks, civil service, MNCs, etc. Surely they know professional/technical skills matter more than politicking skills in running a town council.

That was the Honourable Mr. Chiam See Tong's SDP. Not the SDP of the MONGREL who bit his masters' hands LOUDHAILER chee soon juan.

23 town councils were established only after the 1991 GE. This was done specifically to see whether the opposition could manage their 4 town councils.

Fighting under the SPP banner, CST retained Potong Pasir in the 1997 GE while LTK retained Hougang under the WP banner at the same GE.
Under CSJ the SDP lost with relative ease both Bukit Gombak and Nee Soon Central at the 1997 GE.

None of the below. Mr. Chiam is the opposition but he was honourable. So is Mr. Low Thia Khiang and even the communist Dr. Lee Siew Choh. Probably the same Sylvia, Pritam, Show Mao and Faisal Manap.

But nothing will ever come out of the MONGREL who bit his masters' hands LOUDHAILER chee soon juan. Ling How Doong and Cheow Chai Chen were idiots to have been hoodwinked by him.

Hi Brother Cass 4&4,are you a changed man in 2013?God bless, amen

The system stays with the members and party, not with the Sec-Gen.

A Potong Pasir supporter mentioned SPP bought the system off the shelf. I assume he mean after Chiam left SDP.

The threadstarter's question is: Does SDP know how to build a Town Council from scratch?

It should be best answered by the voters of Punggol East.

P.S. http://www.towncouncils.sg/about/WhyTownCouncils.html
Town councils were established islandwide from 1989 to 1991. Some people are lying through their teeth.

People can build anything from scratch but whether it is workable in the eyes of the voters is another matter altogether.

One test of this is whether a political party manages to retain a constituency and, therefore, a town council.

Hopefully someone who used to help out CST is still around when SDP needs to take over any TC. But that should not be the primary concern of SDP/CSJ right now.

I have reasons to believe if someone develop his/her own system the data will not be portable to another which could be bought off the shelf. Of course I stand corrected lah.

Another thing is people are not whining about the expiring system itself but about the White Scums transferring public asset/property to itself. Legally and according to procedure lah I must add.

With useless Mayors like Teo Ho Pin, there is a very low bar for standards anyway in PAP TCs. So building a TC from scratch is a no-brainer. We've got talents like Dr Chee, VW, etc. In the area of honesty and integrity and civic-centricness, the SDP will tower above the PAP anytime. Just compare the fallen angels from PAP with SDP. Do you see any from SDP? PAP MPs are too busy chasing skirts and putting their hands into panties, they have no time or focus on their real work. Anyway, an MP is not to run TCs - an MP is to attend to real pple's needs and raise their issues in parliament and check on the PAP. The SDP is good for that, besides the WP.

Really?

Can you provide more info where, when and in what context CSJ said that?

Perhaps Chee said it best himself when addressing some people's perception that he had "learnt his lesson" and that he has "changed":

"No, I haven't changed. What has changed is your perception of me."

In December, Chee will have spent 20 years in politics in Singapore.

Oh..... I dunno what to say.

Right after GE2011, SDP was continuing with its ground work, Block Party, Futsal, etc, etc and I thought it has finally decided to move beyond its The Invincible ONLINE Party throne.

Suddenly they came up with that atas press conference, broadcasting their alternative housing policy through the Braddell Road Brothel in an atas hotel. I thought ok maybe they just want to make sure their regular customer base of atas voters still remember SDP is still around.

Then came the CSJ/$30k special offer where CSJ touched on Oppo Unity briefly. Followed by SDP announcing its intention of contesting in PE SMC and again talking about friendly chit chat among Oppo.

Did CSJ's new found freedom anything to do with SDP switching back to its old self?

What do you think?
