Yes, this happens when someone is synonymous with an organisation.
If Jobs had a son in the biz who was heir apparent then the lustre attached to the biz and the name might still be as strong as ever.

Jobs screwed many people when he stopped development for apps for the professional video industry. I was one of the casualties.

From that day onwards Apple has been slowly dying. Jobs' demise just accelerated that.

Jobs had that combination of looking cool in his 50s and exuding immense confidence, having a sharp. visionary mind, and yet possessing the ruthless streak of a cut-throat businessman.

The Halo effect again? Apple really a one-man show?

We won't know the answer as Jobs left on a high.

Take a closer look at blackberry 10. Think this company will eat apple for lunch from next year.

Strangely the only place that the Blackberry is still popular is in Indonesia

Blackberry was popular with corporate customers because of all the security functions. These security functions are now also available on other platforms like iPhone. For the rest of the non-corporate customers entertainment is probably more important & you will find that the iPhone has the greatest number of choices of apps.

So even if the Blackberry improves it might be too late. The android & iphones have the momentum. More developers, more apps. more mindshare, ...

Blackberry is still popular among corporates because of the compression. iPhone and Samsung did not implement compression to maintain popularity with the Telcos.

me betting on motorola, they have their own facilities manufacturing processors and micro-controllers, even if the chip is not as good as intel ones, they can just dump and redo without incurring too mush cost. looking at their latest models, i think they will rule the cellphone arena again in time to come.

samsung is too quantiative, they want to sell as many as possible, too many models, i look it that way, like nokia used to be before.

sony also not bad, i second sony after motorola.

It is still popular because of the keyboard. I still find it a hassle to use touch screens for texting.

I feel that apple is going to lose a lot of users. The iPhone has not innovated for two years now.

For Samsung, I think S3 is their pinnacle. Leaks of S4 doesn't get me excited. 5" screen is just too big. A number of people will be very happy with s3 and note2 for at least two years.

I am getting seriously worried about security and losing control over privacy with android. Google is simply selling too much of my private info. I have been getting too many targeted ads. So I think blackberry may be the surprise hit next year given the stronger security features.

Google doesn't sell private info. What the company does is use the info collected from your browsing and search habits to send you targeted ads. I'm having the same problem with Chrome and I'm about to ditch it and switch to Opera or some other more obscure browser. Firefox has become a memory hogger and needs to be restarted daily.

Frankly speaking the touch screen keyboard of the ip4 that i am using is a very big hassle. I end up keying in many wrong words, the spell check sometimes misspells some words and also posting more than 2 sentences on this forum for eg is a very big problem when using my ip4. I wonder if the ip5 improves on that or not.

It's slightly better on the galaxy note due to the larger screen and the fast style keyboard thing that you can use but still it's just slightly better.

As for the black berry's keyboard i have not really used it for a long period of time but i did try it out on my fren's blackberry and i must add the keys are so tiny it was quite difficult to key in the correct words. Perhaps needs a little practice and then you could actually write faster on a bb vs an iphone or galaxy phone?

On a side note i wonder if repairing a damaged key on the bb's tiny keyboard would be a bitch.

But I only use Firefox and ie. I read somewhere that google is fishing for info using gmail and android phone. A software is used to scan for key words in gmail and messages sent from android phones.

Anyway will uninstall chrome first.

For security I use one PC to check my emails & another PC to surf the internet. The 2nd PC is expandable without any important files & I can just reformat if necessary. This might not the most elegant solution but it works for me.

I don't own any smartphone just using a simple & light SE phone but I do try to keep up with what Apple & the competitors are doing since I still own some AAPL shares.

Google was caught & fined for by-passing the security on Apple's browser Safari. They can't be trusted.

That's why before and after visiting Youtube or doing a Google search, I make sure to select the option in Firefox to "clear the recent history.."

Yes, I noticed that targeted ads are getting too much sometime this year, creeping me out. So I did some googling recently:
http://ask-leo.com/does_google_read_my_email.html

this is pushing me towards Microsoft and blackberry. One of Microsoft marketing pitch is that you need to pay for their software because they don't read your emails to do targeted ads. As for blackberry, well known for mobile security to extend govts had to plea blackberry to release messages to arrest rioters who had been using BB to coordinate the attacks.

better unload your apple shares...

That's what some people told me to do when the price was around $300+, and again when it was around $400+...& so on. I have held on to some of these shares for 10+ years. I'm actually waiting for when it hits $1,000

However now I think I will start to scale back once it hits $800 because I think I can get more returns by trading ETFs.
