I collected my new passport this morning. They asked me if I hold another passport. Obviously I said no la.

That has always been the case for thousands of Singaporeans over the years, you say No, they take your word for it & everything is OK. If they were to actively persue those who they suspect of having dual or even triple citizenship, they're openning a can of worms.

IMO Singapore will continue to have this No Dual Citizenship policy for years to come, simply becos if they don't & allow for dual citizenship, lots more people will leave & that would unstablise the country, so it's there for a purpose. The trick is knowing how the system works & like Bro Joetys telling of the occasional white lie might actually be benefitial to both parties.

Obviously those who are thinking of leaving or migrating out of Singapore for whatever reasons, the earlier/younger you do it the better as you're not too tied down by the burden of CPF.

good insights. for the ICA/MHA, feigning ignorance is bliss. even when Daphne openly declared in her previous passport renewal applications that she is a citizen of another country, the seasoned staff chose to turn a blind eye to her declaration.

This time, a naive staff (perhaps new in the job) openly confronted Daphne and opened a can of worms.

will ICA leave out that question now?

You've answered this question yourself. If Daphne thinks its not worth losing, she wouldn't have bothered to write to TCH. Or she is crying wolf? Who knows, tons of people write to TCH daily.... how do they filter the geniune or pretenders/cry babies like Daphne.

I am also interested to find out. Don't think the answer is so obvious. People who want a dual citizenship want to have the cake and eat it. When given a choice, it could be a difficult one to make.

If the PAP govt wants to squeeze 6 million population onto a small piece of land and make this place a cosmopolitan rich man's playground, sooner or later it'll have to allow for dual citizenship.

Unfortunately, the PAP will resist this because it can potentially open a can of worms. Two issues I can think of are CPF and NS.

They want you to sign up for a bloody Sing and Tell plan. After that, you can't escape. A lock in customer will be at the mercy of 'the provider'. Dual is good.

Daphne is an Australian citizen. SG citizenship is secondary to her. It's not much loss to her even if she loses her SG citizenship. She is in it to taunt the pap.

Daphne, losing her SG citizenship, means the pap has one less anti PAP vote from Daphne. But the anti pap votes will rise from her friends and families. We are all waiting to see what the pap does to Daphne's birthright
