if you download apps (clients) to do messaging, chances are that your messages are stored in the app servers. most apps are based on client-server model. you should be able to retrieve all your server based data via your id typically registered with your itunes account. for sms, which is independent of apple apps, your messages can be stored on the phone by saving them or by the provider in their smsc. most providers do not keep over 7 days of smsc messages. provider and apple should be able to store all your contacts on their servers for backup purposes. change your password in your itunes and icloud accounts now.

thankyou so much bro ...i dont have icloud account ..now going to change my itune account .

in itunes, everytime you log in to update an app for example, itunes will automatically sync all your data from itune apps. but itunes store them as a .sqlitedb file, which is prohibited from direct access by anyone. you need to either access via newly downloaded apps using old id and modified itunes setup/password (assuming you have different ids for apps and itunes) or purchase a recovery app like wondershare on your mac to check on your data. wondershare can deep dive into the .sqlitedb file and show you all contents that are last sync'd by itunes.

Sorry Drfter for using this thread but it might a lesson for everyone to learn from your misfortune.

My advice is to use one of these.

Walking around with a smart phone containing your whole life is not a wise thing to do. I learned the easy way when I saw similar scenes of panic when my iPhone owner friends misplaced theirs. Their whole lives were turned upside down.

Those who stored "interesting images" were the ones who really freaked out.

I told myself that I would never put myself in a similar situation.

After a while I folded and never looked back. People stopped using the phone, then comes along SMS and now messaging and mails. I travel often and it helps a lot having a smart phone. There are days when I don't make or receive a single phone call. Phone calls are now considered too intrusive and disruptive.

One day I was in a foreign city and heading to the museum. I pulled out my iphone to check if I was heading in the right direction. A family came along and asked for the direction to the same place. We checked the GPS on the phone and we all agreed how indispensable it has become. Until that incident, I took it for granted its use for nearly a year.

The iphone and ipad is now such an indispensable tool to make life so much easier.

I do however do not carry any sensitive or silly thing on my devices that will come and haunt me. At least I think I don't I do.acc

In terms of importance , here are the features
1) Mail (as many accounts)
2) Office mail - special app with encryption including calendar, attachment reading)
2) contacts / address
3) browser
4) GPS
5) Kindle/Ibook reader

I am now highly mobile. On a weekend you find me early in the morning in cafe shooting a white americano and the fun begins. Read the news, heard about a great book on the news. Turn on safari, check amazon, download book. Then the mails from family and friends. By then it is close to 11am. Time for a another shot of caffeine. Facetime with loved ones. Love how sharp and clear this is ( I must be nuts to use the phone when facetime has visual and fucking free care of the joint's BB). Then it is SBF time. Quick scan and time to post whats on my mind. and the rest is pretty much routine.

My advice is to use one of these.

Don't get me wrong. I not a technophobe. I have a cycling GPS and when I go to France for my cycling holidays, it's also used to navigate the streets of Paris while walking around.

A smart phone puts too many eggs into one basket.

your "feature" phone has end of sales, end of support and end of life coming up. it's a matter of time before providers put the pressure on you to upgrade to a smartphone. for nz, due to rural coverage, you may enjoy your old phone for some more years, but eventually, resistance will be futile. network maintenance cost to sustain 2g and 2.5g tech will reach a point where it becomes prohibitively high to continue operation in lower gen techs. moreover, operators are under increasing pressure to retire outdated cell and switch equipment to relieve space and power for new tech, or consolidate altogether 3g and 4g with no 2g. the most precious asset is spectrum, and operators will refarm 2g spectrum for use in 4g. device chips are moving rapidly to 3g/4g hybrids, putting more pressure on feature phones to go away. you'll see only 4g devices coming on the market in 2013. no operator nor supplier of equipment can continue scavenging indefinitely for spare components to support legacy systems. manufacturers have begun to stop making outdated 2g/2.5g components a few years ago.

3g will be around for another 10 years in NZ.
