A rocky maiden flight for Scoot

SINGAPORE - Scoot, the new local budget carrier which is a subsidiary of Singapore Airlines, suffered a slight hiccup on its inaugural flight to Sydney last night when it was delayed for almost two hours before take-off.

The "technical fault" saw the Boeing 777-200 aircraft making a U-turn on the runway and returning to the boarding bay at about 12.20am, 40 minutes after it had pulled away from Terminal 2 at Changi Airport. (SQ HAS TRANSFERRED THE OLDEST B777 TO SCOOT AIRLINES. IN CONTRAST AIR ASIA’S ALL AIRCRAFT ARE NEW. WHAT BULLSHIT FROM SCOOT. EXPECT MORE BREAKDOWNS FOR SURE AND THEY DONT HAVE ENOUGH BACK UP AIRCRAFT . ONLY 4 AIRCRAFT IN THE FLEET!!)

TODAY deputy features editor Christopher Toh, on board the flight, said the passengers reacted calmly to the delay, with Scoot's flight attendants serving milk and Oreo cookies to the 400 travellers on board, many of whom were members of the media. (WHAT KIND OF MEDIA SPIN IS THIS / I WOULD BE HOPPING MAD, NOT SITTING CALMLY !!)

Passengers were kept updated at regular intervals on expected wait times via announcements made by the captain.( BIG DEAL. FURTHER IRRITATE THE PAXS)

The plane, originally scheduled for departure at 11.25pm, eventually took off at about 1.05am this morning, but not before the delay had been seized upon by some people on social media - including Mr Tony Fernandes, chief executive of competitor budget airline AirAsia.

"Scoot's inaugural flight only scooted 50 meters before having to return to gate. Gone Tech," said Mr Fernandes on Twitter, using the industry term for a technical fault.

The plane landed at Sydney's Kingsford Smith Airport this morning at 10.20am in Sydney (8.20am, Singapore time).

Luckily the plane reached it destination safely. Wonder what other correspondences by the pilot along the way that the passengers did not know! Did they count the number of engines left after the flight ?

1st flights don't count. It's how they perform in the long run that will determine if they are successful. Still remember taking Tiger during the early days & they were ok. The only problem was that you couldn't use a Macintosh computer to book a flight because some fields were not accessible. I let them know about this problem but don't think anyone took note because the problem persisted until they re-vamped the design of their website years later.

It was for this reason that I ended up taking Airasia. When you are in the budget business you have to make it easy for customers to use your services because there's little to set you apart from the competition. Nowadays I would never take a Tiger because of their bad track record.

1. Try to get some pie in low cost airline
2. Off load old plane, if not will be sitting duck wasting money making SIA in red account

So SIA need to find a way to off load the old plane because no buyer out there for 2nd B777 because most airline op for A380 and B787.
