I'm referring to the Trauma response in Singapore and NZ which I'm familiar with and to Raffles Hospital in particular. The UK would probably be similar. If there's a major accident with serious injuries involved, no private facility is going to have a trauma team on standby especially at 4 am in the morning.

However, if I was going for elective surgery for a brain tumor, I'd go private and hire the best specialist in town. He'd choose the private facility in town where he holds a license to operate.

Spleens and kidneys could be ruptured. Lungs could have collapsed. Nerves could be severed. Bowels could be spilling their contents into other body cavities.

Very often, an MRI from tip to toe is required to access the damage.

Taking an accident victim to a nearby hospital not equipped to handle such cases does nothing but delay potentially life saving intervention.

Besides,even for most patients with traumatic conditions in Singapore.The trauma specialist on duty only stabilize their conditions so that they are operated first thing in the morning tomorrow.

Try having a heart attack during the Chinese New Year first two days and see whether specialist in SGH rush to operate on you.You still wait.Wait out the next two days with nursing care.

I had gone through trauma procedures a couple of times oversea.In in those countries ,it's the private hospitals that gave me that extra edge because my insurance covers it.

Rephrased,try having an accident that requires trauma response in Indonesia,India,Cambodia ,Papua New Guinea and etc.in government hospitals.It doesn't matter whether at 4AM or 4PM.Only than you would understand that not all countries operates like Singapore.

1. I didn't mention is single third world country such Indo, PNG etc in any of my posts. If you're seriously injured in these sorts of countries, you're pretty much screwed. Your best chance of survival is evacuation asap.

2. In Singapore, in NZ, in OZ, places that I'm familiar with, if you have an accident and your brain is swelling, there is no such thing as stabilisation. You need a freakin' hole drilled in your skull IMMEDIATELY.

3. A heart attack is not a medical emergency once they've got the heart going again and wired you up. You can wait in limbo for days in any country while the doctors decide the best course of action.
